Oscar Ramirez\/The Epoch Times<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The DHS confirmed to The Epoch Times that 131 Chinese migrants were removed on a chartered flight on that date.<\/p>\n<p>The DHS <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2024\/07\/02\/dhs-conducts-removal-flight-china\">described<\/a> an initial flight in June as the largest removal flight since 2018. The department did not specify the number of people deported for that flight.<\/p>\n<p>In an Oct. 17 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2024\/10\/17\/dhs-conducts-removal-flight-peoples-republic-china\">statement<\/a>, the DHS said that the latest removal flight demonstrates its commitment to \u201cpursuing sustained cooperation\u201d with China and other countries over illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>The DHS did not say how long the illegal immigrants had been staying in the United States before their deportation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>Intending migrants should not believe the lies of smugglers\u2014Chinese nationals without a legal basis to remain in the United States are subject to swift removal,<\/strong>\u201d Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said. \u201cThe Department of Homeland Security will continue to strengthen consequences for individuals unlawfully entering our country and enforce our nation\u2019s laws.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Illegal immigration has been a key issue in the 2024 presidential race.<\/p>\n<p>According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection data, there have been more than 73,700 apprehensions of Chinese nationals nationwide since October 2023, with half of them occurring at the southern border.<\/p>\n<p>The United States and China resumed cooperation on the deportation of Chinese nationals in May, nearly two years after China suspended the agreement following then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi\u2019s visit to Taiwan, a self-governing island that the Chinese communist regime claims as its own.<\/p>\n<p>In a May 13 <a href=\"http:\/\/us.china-embassy.gov.cn\/eng\/lcbt\/sgfyrbt\/202405\/t20240514_11304155.htm\">statement<\/a> to media outlets, the Chinese Embassy in Washington said that<strong> the regime is open to working with the United States on the repatriation of illegal immigrants provided that Washington gives \u201creciprocal attention to China\u2019s concerns\u201d and creates \u201ca proper atmosphere for cooperation.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Republicans on the House Homeland Security Subcommittee on Oversight, Investigations, and Accountability held a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/house-republicans-express-concern-over-sharp-uptick-in-chinese-migrants-illegally-crossing-border-5651623\">hearing<\/a> on May 16 to raise concerns over the \u201cunprecedented flow of Chinese nationals\u201d illegally crossing the U.S. southern border.<\/p>\n<p>The federal government eased the vetting process last year, with Border Patrol agents reducing the number of vetting questions for Chinese nationals from 40 to only five questions, the subcommittee said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/homeland.house.gov\/2024\/05\/11\/media-advisory-homeland-subcommittee-hearing-on-unprecedented-surge-of-chinese-illegal-immigration\/\">statement<\/a> in May.<\/p>\n<p>The subcommittee\u2019s chairman, Dan Bishop (R-N.C.), said the vetting process may be inadequate to protect national security.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) continues its quest for geopolitical dominance and threatens our sovereignty, we must examine the risks presented by releasing ever-increasing numbers of minimally vetted Chinese nationals into our communities,\u201d Bishop <a href=\"https:\/\/homeland.house.gov\/2024\/05\/11\/media-advisory-homeland-subcommittee-hearing-on-unprecedented-surge-of-chinese-illegal-immigration\/\">said<\/a> in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c<strong>A wide-open border presents a ripe opportunity for the CCP to undermine our national security.
