{"id":1498561,"date":"2024-10-25T17:25:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-25T21:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1498561"},"modified":"2024-10-25T17:25:00","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T21:25:00","slug":"new-boeing-ceo-may-clean-house-with-sale-of-space-unit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/new-boeing-ceo-may-clean-house-with-sale-of-space-unit\/1498561\/","title":{"rendered":"New Boeing CEO May Clean House With Sale Of Space Unit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">New Boeing CEO May Clean House With Sale Of Space Unit<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>Boeing is unlikely to recover from its botched\u00a0Starliner spacecraft mission to the International Space Station this past summer, leaving two\u00a0astronauts stranded on the ISS that Elon Musk&#8217;s SpaceX has to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/technology\/spacex-launches-rescue-mission-two-stranded-boeing-starliner-astronauts-iss\">rescue with a\u00a0Crew Dragon spacecraft<\/a> early next year.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-10-25_13-06-32.png?itok=I0FA_4vx\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Friday afternoon, a new <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/science\/space-astronomy\/boeing-explores-sale-of-space-business-fa7fa3a9?mod=hp_lead_pos1\">Wall Street Journal<\/a><\/em> report revealed that\u00a0Boeing&#8217;s new CEO, Kelly Ortberg, has mulled over selling its NASA\u00a0business, including the unit that manages the Starliner.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>The effort, part of a strategy by Boeing&#8217;s new CEO Kelly Ortberg to <\/em><strong><em>streamline the company and stem its financial losses<\/em><\/strong><em>, is at an early stage and may not result in a deal.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>. . .\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Boeing is expected to keep its position overseeing the Space Launch System<\/em><\/strong><em>, some of the people said. The SLS is a huge rocket NASA is paying the company to build to start future lunar-exploration missions.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>. . .\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Before Ortberg joined, <\/em><strong><em>Boeing held discussions with Blue Origin<\/em><\/strong><em>, the space company owned by billionaire Jeff Bezos, <\/em><strong><em>about taking over some of the NASA programs<\/em><\/strong><em>, people familiar with those discussions said. Blue Origin has been preparing its own rockets for future NASA and commercial missions and to compete with SpaceX. -WSJ\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Boeing&#8217;s mounting problems include starliner malfunctions in space\u00a0this summer &#8211; the spacecraft <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/technology\/boeing-starliner-spacecraft-returns-earth-without-crew\">returned to Earth without crew<\/a> in early September. Also, two of its 737 Max jets crashed in 2018 and 2019, killing 346 people. Earlier this year, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/report-suggests-boeing-737-max-left-factory-without-door-plug-bolts\">door plug ripped<\/a> off a Max jet.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s remarkable that Boeing received $4.2 billion to develop Starliner, while SpaceX was awarded just $2.6 billion to create Crew Dragon over a decade ago.
