{"id":1498921,"date":"2024-10-28T06:45:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-28T10:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1498921"},"modified":"2024-10-28T06:45:00","modified_gmt":"2024-10-28T10:45:00","slug":"these-are-the-deadliest-countries-for-journalists-this-year","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/these-are-the-deadliest-countries-for-journalists-this-year\/1498921\/","title":{"rendered":"These Are The Deadliest Countries For Journalists This Year"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">These Are The Deadliest Countries For Journalists This Year<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><strong>47 media professionals have been killed in 2024 so far due to their journalistic activities<\/strong>, according to the Reporters Without Borders (RSF)\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/rsf.org\/en\/barometer?type%5Btue%5D=tue&amp;annee_start=2024&amp;annee_end=2024#exaction-victimes\">database<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/1181\/deadliest-countries-for-journalists\/\">As Statista&#8217;s Anna Fleck shows<\/a> in the chart below, by far<strong> the deadliest place for journalists last year was in the Palestinian territories,<\/strong> where 14 deaths have already been counted in the first ten months of the year.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/1181\/deadliest-countries-for-journalists\/\" title=\"Infographic: The Deadliest Countries for Journalists in 2023 | Statista\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>You will find more infographics at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chartoftheday\/\">Statista<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Following some way behind are Pakistan with six deaths currently reported there,<strong> five in Bangladesh, four in Mexico, three in each of Sudan, Myanmar and Iraq,<\/strong> as well as two deaths in Ukraine and Colombia, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>A single journalist was also killed in each of the following countries: Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Honduras, Russia and Turkmenistan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, 111 people are currently listed as \u201cdisappeared\u201d, with the highest numbers recorded in Mexico (31), Syria (9), Russia (6), Iran (6) and Kosovo (5).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It is important to note here that media professionals\u2019 deaths are only listed here if confirmed by the RSF as being linked to their journalistic work.
