Rumble Sues California; Says State’s “War Against Political Speech Is Censorship”<\/span><\/p>\n

Video streaming site Rumble has filed a lawsuit against the state of California in response to legislation forcing social media platforms to censor political speech.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Rumble is being represented by The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which filed suit against\u00a0AB 2655, aka the \u201cDefending Democracy from Deepfake Deception Act of 2024,\u201d<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California, Sacramento Division.<\/p>\n

The legislation is Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom\u2019s response to a deepfake satire video of Kamala Harris that was shared on X by Elon Musk among others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Newsom was upset over a parody video (below) that Musk shared on X.<\/p>\n

ADF stated in a press release that the law\u00a0\u201cdeputizes\u201d Rumble to restrict its user\u2019s free speech, while another law, AB 2839, \u201cProtecting Democracy Against Election Disinformation and Deepfakes,\u201d\u00a0uses vague standards to punish individuals posting political content about elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cCalifornia\u2019s war against political speech is censorship, plain and simple. We can\u2019t trust the government to decide what is true in our online political debates,\u201d <\/strong>said\u00a0ADF Senior Counsel Phil Sechler.<\/em><\/p>\n

\u201cRumble is one of the few online voices stepping up against this trend of censorship while other platforms and sites cave to totalitarian regimes censoring Americans,\u201d Sechler further urged.<\/em><\/p>\n

He added that \u201cRumble is standing for free speech even when it is hard. Other online platforms and media companies must see these laws for what they are \u2014 a threat to their existence.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chris Pavlovski, Chairman and CEO of Rumble, further urged that \u201cThe very thought of the government judging the content of political speech, and then deciding whether it should be permitted, censored, or eliminated altogether is about the most chilling thing you could imagine.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cRumble\u2028will always celebrate freedom and support creative independence, so we\u2019re delighted to work with ADF to help protect lawful online expression,\u201d Pavlovski asserted.<\/p>\n

The Democratic Party is pushing hard to enact laws that force censorship.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

As both Hillary and Bill Clinton have noted, its a response to them losing \u2018total control\u2019 over the free flow of information.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
