{"id":1506599,"date":"2024-12-07T16:05:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-07T21:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1506599"},"modified":"2024-12-07T16:05:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-07T21:05:00","slug":"ceo-murder-update-backpack-found-in-central-park-suspect-may-have-immediately-left-city-by-bus","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/ceo-murder-update-backpack-found-in-central-park-suspect-may-have-immediately-left-city-by-bus\/1506599\/","title":{"rendered":"CEO Murder Update: Backpack Found In Central Park, Suspect May Have Immediately Left City By Bus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">CEO Murder Update: Backpack Found In Central Park, Suspect May Have Immediately Left City By Bus<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>An intensive search of New York City&#8217;s Central Park seems to have yielded an important break in the hunt for the assassin of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson: <strong>Police think they&#8217;ve found a backpack that the killer ditched as he fled the murder scene.\u00a0<\/strong>Meanwhile, police have released a detailed timeline of his movements around the city, and say the suspect<strong>\u00a0the mystery man fled the city by bus very soon after<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>carrying out his premeditated crime<\/strong> on Wednesday morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>At 6:44 am, the\u00a0suspect shot the 50-year-old Thompson &#8212; who was arriving at the New York Hilton Midtown for an investors&#8217; meeting &#8212; in the back and leg before leaving first by foot, then using an e-bike he rode through Central Park.\u00a0Police think he entered the park by riding north up 6th Avenue, and then<strong> exited the park at West 77th Street &#8212;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/us\/live-news\/unitedhealthcare-brian-thompson-death-12-5-24#cm4bszdzx00063b6n7dk20dzg\">minus<\/a>\u00a0the backpack<\/strong>\u00a0he wore before and during the killing and as he rolled into the park.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/backpack%20found%20ceo.jpeg?itok=Vgvzp5Ze\"><strong>This backpack, found in a wooded area of Central Park, is believed to have been ditched by the killer of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson <\/strong>(obtained by <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/12\/06\/us-news\/nypd-finds-bag-possibly-belonging-to-unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompsons-killer-in-central-park\/\"><em>New York Post<\/em><\/a>)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Concluding the pack was likely somewhere in the park &#8212; and within it, perhaps the murder weapon &#8212; NYPD assigned more than 100 police officers to comb the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.britannica.com\/place\/Central-Park-New-York-City\">840-acre<\/a> expanse. They hit paydirt, with the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/12\/06\/us-news\/nypd-finds-bag-possibly-belonging-to-unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompsons-killer-in-central-park\/\"><em>New York Post<\/em><\/a> reporting that cops found the apparent backpack in a treed area south of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Central_Park_Carousel\">Carousel<\/a> near <a href=\"https:\/\/www.centralpark.com\/things-to-do\/attractions\/heckscher-playground\/\">Heckscher Playground<\/a> near Central Park South.<\/p>\n<p>So far, <strong>police haven&#8217;t leaked anything about the contents of the backpack<\/strong>, which appears to be an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.peakdesign.com\/products\/everyday-backpack\">Everyday Backpack<\/a> sold by Peak Designs between 2016 and 2019.\u00a0Marketed for use by photographers but also used by others, the latest version goes for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.peakdesign.com\/products\/everyday-backpack\">about $250<\/a>.\u00a0Police have yet to find the killer&#8217;s getaway bike, which he seems to have abandoned somewhere after he exited Central Park and before he made his way to a bus station.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Centralpark_map.jpeg?itok=wjp9XdHC\"><strong>Police found the backpack between the Carousel (6) and Heckscher Playground (8), not far from where he is believed to have entered just west of The Pond (9)\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Friday, <strong>police provided their most detailed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/06\/nyregion\/brian-thompson-gunman-timeline.html?smid=url-share\">accounting<\/a> yet<\/strong> of the suspect&#8217;s moves around New York City since he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/suspected-ceo-assassin-arrived-nyc-bus-last-month-stayed-hostel\">arrived on a Greyhound bus<\/a> 10 days before carrying out the killing &#8212; along with what they&#8217;ve learned from questioning of witnesses, including people who stayed at the same hostel he did:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday, Nov 24: The Killer Arrives<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Suspect <strong>arrives in New York City at 10:11 pm on a Greyhound bus that originated in Atlanta<\/strong> and made six or seven stops along its journey. Police are unsure where he got on. He immediately takes a cab to the site of the assassination &#8212; the New York Hilton Midtown &#8212; and walks around the area for a half hour before heading to the<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiusa.org\/find-hostels\/new-york\/new-york-891-amsterdam-ave\">HI New York City Hostel<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0at Amsterdam Avenue and West 103rd Street, on the Upper West Side near Central Park.<\/p>\n<p>Per earlier reports,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/05\/nyregion\/brian-thompson-uhc-shooting-suspect-search.html\">the suspect was said to have checked out of the hostel on Friday, Nov. 29<\/a>, only to return and check back in the very next day. However, police now say the check-out appears to have only happened via an administrative entry in the hostel&#8217;s systems, and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/us-news\/retracing-the-steps-of-unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompsons-suspected-killer-from-arrival-in-nyc-to-post-shooting-disappearing-act\/\">that the suspect actually stayed there<\/a> for all the 10 days before the attack.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday, Dec 4: The Day of the Murder<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>5:30 am: <\/strong>Suspect leaves the hostel, likely via bike, and arrives at the Hilton 11 minutes later.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>5:41 am: <\/strong>After wandering in the hotel&#8217;s vicinity and strolling back and forth along West 54th, he goes to a Starbucks and purchases water and a <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/us-news\/retracing-the-steps-of-unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompsons-suspected-killer-from-arrival-in-nyc-to-post-shooting-disappearing-act\/\">Kind<\/a> snack bar.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:30 am:<\/strong>\u00a0Suspect appears to be <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/us-news\/retracing-the-steps-of-unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompsons-suspected-killer-from-arrival-in-nyc-to-post-shooting-disappearing-act\/\">talking on a cell phone<\/a>; police later recover a phone in a nearby alley<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:44 am:<\/strong> He fatally shoots UnitedHealthcare CEO Thompson &#8212; who had walked from his lodging at the Marriott across the street &#8212; in the back and leg. The suspect flees into an alley where he apparently stashed his bike.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:48 am:<\/strong> He enters Central Park at 60th Street &#8212; still wearing the backpack &#8212; and rides onto Center Drive\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:56 am: <\/strong>Suspect exits the park close to West 77th Street &#8212; now without the backpack<\/p>\n<p><strong>6:58 am:<\/strong> Suspect captured on security camera video biking at 86th Street and Columbus Ave.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>7:00 am:<\/strong>\u00a0Now on foot, he&#8217;s walking on 86th Street. Next, he hails a cab close to West 85th and Columbus Avenue, and heads for the George Washington Bridge Bus Station, which provides <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-manhattan-shooting-death-48590215ba756741bbaadeeb6255d135\">interstate service<\/a> to Philadelphia, Boston and Washington, DC.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>7:30 am: <\/strong>Suspect has arrived at the bus station, with video capturing him entering but not leaving, leading police to think he may have left the city very shortly after his crime.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/9259c00ed26a50b2f17436390d22f96fa613d2db.jpg?itok=bR8ypwWl\"><strong>The suspect strictly guarded his face from view during his long stay at a hostel &#8212; except when the hostel&#8217;s female desk clerk <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/us-news\/retracing-the-steps-of-unitedhealthcare-ceo-brian-thompsons-suspected-killer-from-arrival-in-nyc-to-post-shooting-disappearing-act\/\">asked<\/a> him to remove it so she could see his face\u00a0<\/strong>(NYPD)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>NYPD chief of detectives Joseph Kenny also gave new insight into how the suspect conducted himself during the several nights he stayed a the hostel:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>At the hostel, he stayed under fake identification, <strong>always using cash, avoiding conversation and hiding his face with his mask even during meals<\/strong>, the chief said. <strong>He never spoke with anyone<\/strong> and lowered his mask once to speak, smiling, to the hostel clerk when he first checked in, the chief said. &#8212; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/12\/06\/nyregion\/brian-thompson-gunman-timeline.html?smid=url-share\">New York Times<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom every indication we have from witnesses, from the Starbucks, from the hostel, <strong>he kept his mask on at all times except for the one instance<\/strong> where we have him photographed with the mask off,\u201d said Kenny. Police didn&#8217;t find any clues in the room he shared with strangers &#8212; who tell police <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/unitedhealthcare-ceo-manhattan-shooting-death-48590215ba756741bbaadeeb6255d135\">he never spoke to them<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As we <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/suspected-ceo-assassin-arrived-nyc-bus-last-month-stayed-hostel\">detailed on Friday<\/a>, <em>CBS News<\/em> reported that scrutiny of the video of the shooting has led police to believe\u00a0<strong>the murder<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>weapon is a B&amp;T Station SIX-9, a highly unusual weapon<\/strong> which\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/bt-usa.com\/products\/station-six-9\/\">comes equipped<\/a>\u00a0with a sound-suppressor and retails for around $2,100.
