{"id":1506658,"date":"2024-12-08T00:15:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-08T05:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1506658"},"modified":"2024-12-08T00:15:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-08T05:15:00","slug":"next-few-weeks-fda-on-verge-of-possible-toxic-red-dye-ban-across-americas-food-supply-chain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/next-few-weeks-fda-on-verge-of-possible-toxic-red-dye-ban-across-americas-food-supply-chain\/1506658\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Next Few Weeks&#8221;:\u00a0FDA On Verge Of Possible Toxic Red Dye Ban Across America&#8217;s Food Supply Chain\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">&#8220;Next Few Weeks&#8221;:\u00a0FDA On Verge Of Possible Toxic Red Dye Ban Across America&#8217;s Food Supply Chain\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>The Food and Drug Administration is considering a potential ban on a carcinogenic food dye derived from petroleum, commonly found in beverages, snacks, cereals, and candies, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/health\/health-news\/red-dye-no-3-fda-ban-food-artificial-color-rcna183095\">NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday,\u00a0FDA Deputy Commissioner for Human Foods Jim Jones stated at the\u00a0Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee hearing that his agency will\u00a0finalize the decision to eliminate\u00a0food dye FD&amp;C Red No. 3, known as Red 3, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/medical\/food-additives-exposed-what-lies-beneath-americas-food-supply\">America&#8217;s food supply chain<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;So, (In) Red 3, we have a petition in front of us to revoke the authorization for it, and we are hopeful that within the <strong>next few weeks<\/strong>, we will be acting on that petition, and a decision should be forthcoming,&#8221;\u00a0Jones said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The FDA has stated that it has reviewed the safety of Red 3 in\u00a0snacks, beverages, candy, and other foods &#8211; multiple times since its initial approval in 1969. However, the current petition calls for the additive to be reviewed again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Republican Sen. Tommy Tuberville stated: &#8220;Let me say this: Red 3 has been known to <strong>cause cancer<\/strong> in cosmetics, but we still allow it to be put in our food. . . I don&#8217;t understand that.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>According to <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foodsafetynews.com\/2024\/12\/deputy-commissioner-for-human-foods-confirms-fda-intends-to-finalize-decision-on-red-dye-3-soon\/\">Food Safety News<\/a><\/em>,\u00a0Connecticut Democratic Rep. Rosa DeLauro and 22 Congress members asked the\u00a0FDA to ban Red Dye No. 3.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A ban on Red 3 is not only statutorily required, but it is also feasible \u2013 alternatives are widely available,&#8221; the lawmakers wrote, adding,\u00a0&#8220;<strong>Thirty-four years of inaction is far too long<\/strong>. We are calling on the FDA to use its regulatory authority to ban Red 3 from our nation&#8217;s food supply before the end of this Congress.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The letter noted that the <strong>carcinogenicity of Red 3 is very clear<\/strong>.\u00a0The National Toxicology Program, the European Commission&#8217;s Scientific Committee for Food, and the World Health Organization have all stated that <strong>petroleum-based food dye\u00a0causes cancer in animals<\/strong>. Even California has said Red 3 causes\u00a0<strong>neurobehavioral issues in children<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2024-12-07_15-58-58.png?itok=TenS2gWf\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Now that President-elect Donald J. Trump has nominated\u00a0<strong>Robert F. Kennedy Jr<\/strong>. to lead the\u00a0Department of Health and Human Services &#8211; his ability to rid the food supply chain of toxic\u00a0dyes and highly processed food could soon become a reality.<\/p>\n<p>Recall RFK Jr. spotlighted food manufacturer <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/markets\/war-froot-loops\">Kellogg&#8217;s Fruitloops cereal<\/a> for children, which has &#8220;18 or 19 ingredients&#8221; in the US formula but only &#8220;2 or 3&#8221; ingredients in Canada.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>RFK JR: &#8220;The nutrition department of the FDA has to go.
