Report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Trump Considers a16z&#8217;s Crypto Policy Head For CFTC Chair; Report<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/brian-quintenz-cftc-chair-pro-crypto-trump\"><em>Authored by Josh O&#8217;Sullivan via CoinTelegraph.com,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Brian Quintenz, a former United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) commissioner, has reportedly emerged as the top contender for the CFTC chair position under the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/0193ba64-b3a7-7f1b-9ba1-9f8bdbcb.jpg?itok=opOis9kq\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to a Bloomberg\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-12-12\/andreessen-crypto-policy-lead-quintenz-in-running-for-cftc-chair\">report<\/a>, people familiar with the matter said that Quintenz had been interviewed for the position.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Currently the head of policy at Andreessen Horowitz\u2019s crypto division, a16z, Quintenz\u2019s background includes overseeing key policy initiatives at the CFTC between 2017 and 2021.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The appointment of the former CFTC commissioner may shift the scales in the long-debated jurisdictional lack of clarity over cryptocurrencies between the CFTC and the US Securities and Exchange Commission.<\/p>\n<h2>Looking for a guy in finance?<\/h2>\n<p>Quintenz previously served as a Republican-appointed commissioner at the CFTC, advocating for financial innovation of the digital asset industry and currently pushes for regulatory clarity as head of policy at a16z.<\/p>\n<p><strong>During his tenure at the CFTC, he supported the integration of digital asset derivatives and event contracts into the federal agency\u2019s regular framework, focusing on improving innovation while maintaining market integrity.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At a16z, Quintenz advocates for regulations that balance scrutiny with flexibility in crypto, using his dual experience in traditional finance (TradFi) and crypto regulation to bridge the two playing fields.<\/p>\n<h2>Quintenz\u2019s criticism of the SEC<\/h2>\n<p>In March, the former CFTC commissioner\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/sec-ethereum-securities-probe-ploy-deny-ether-etfs\">criticized the SEC for how it handled Ether<\/a>\u2019s status as a security, arguing that the regulator already \u201cexplicitly acknowledged\u201d that Ether\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/ethereum-price\"><strong>ETH<\/strong>$3,960.53<\/a>\u00a0is a non-security asset as of October 2023 when it approved Ether futures exchange-traded funds (ETFs).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Quintenz stated that \u201cif the SEC had any doubt about the regulatory treatment of ETH [&#8230;] it wouldn\u2019t have approved the ETF,\u201d adding that if it were a security, the CFTC-listed future contracts \u201cwould be illegal.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since then, spot Ether ETFs have not only been approved, but they have flourished, recording their biggest single day of inflows with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/ether-etfs-record-inflow-with-9-positive-days-in-a-row\">an aggregate of $431.5 million pouring in<\/a>\u00a0on Dec. 5.<\/p>\n<h2>Crypto under the Trump administration<\/h2>\n<p>The venture capital firm a16z has expressed its opinion on the upcoming Trump administration, stating that it\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/a16z-greater-flexibility-experiment-crypto-under-trump\">expects \u201cgreater flexibility to experiment\u201d<\/a>\u00a0in the crypto regulatory shakeup.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The crypto company said it is \u201cvery optimistic\u201d about the next government due to its promised pro-crypto political stance \u2014 something crypto firms and communities consider lacking under the previous administration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A16z has been one of the largest investors in the crypto industry, funding hundreds of startup firms, including Maker, Solana, Avalanche, Aptos, EigenLayer, Lido, Nansen, OpenSea, Coinbase and more.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>      <span class=\"field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden\"><a title=\"View user profile.\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/users\/tyler-durden\" class=\"username\">Tyler Durden<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden\">Thu, 12\/12\/2024 &#8211;
