President-elect Donald Trump’s threat to impose a\u00a0sweeping 25%\u00a0tariff on all goods and services from Canada, aimed at pressuring the neighbors to the north to curb cross-border fentanyl\u00a0and\u00a0human smuggling, has thrown Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government into a state of turmoil<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Trade between Canada and the US is the largest of any two nations, with cross-border trade totaling $926 billion in 2023\u2014roughly $2.5 billion daily. This dark tariff reality for\u00a0Trudeau of not responding adequately to Trump’s\u00a0border security demand risks pushing\u00a0Canada into an economic crisis.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In response, the Canadian government unveiled a new border security plan on Wednseday,\u00a0costing about a billion dollars to\u00a0strengthen border security with the US.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“President Trump is securing the border and he hasn’t even taken office yet,”\u00a0Trump’s transition team wrote in a news release, adding,\u00a0“Facing an uproar among his own citizens …\u00a0embattled Prime Minister Justin Trudeau just announced a billion-dollar plan for major border security improvements and increased border patrols.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

The new border\u00a0proposal\u00a0outlines the deployment of drones, helicopters, and other advanced technologies along the 5,525-mile northern border.<\/p>\n

Despite Wednesday’s announcement, calls for Trudeau’s resignation continue to mount,\u00a0while his approval ratings implode.\u00a0The longer far-left Trudeau remains in power, the\u00a0more his popularity will erode, with\u00a0citizens\u00a0frustrated by his years of incompetence.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

David Asher, who previously led a Trump-era task force on fentanyl, commented on the border proposal. He appeared on CBC News Network<\/a> earlier this week to share his insights.<\/p>\n

Asher told the\u00a0CBC News host that the new\u00a0border\u00a0proposal “looks rather unimpressive” and is a “drop in the bucket compared to what we actually need.”\u00a0<\/p>\n

Asher then segued the conversation, stating that his “concerns go well beyond the border<\/strong>,” highlighting the expansion of fentanyl superlab <\/strong>production across Canada\u2014much of which is destined for the US.<\/p>\n

“US law enforcement has a lot of sources telling us <\/strong>– that not only the Mexican cartels are setting up operations in Canada – but also Chinese organized crime<\/strong> – and even Iranian organized crime…”\u00a0<\/p>\n

He stated that all three organizations were tied into a massive bust in\u00a0Vancouver of\u00a0drugs and chemicals equal to more than 95 million pills<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Asher said whoever was running that superlab in\u00a0Vancouver had their eyes on the US market<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

“This has gotten to a point, with superlabs and super laundering networks and lack of super cooperation with the US, that these issues have irritated President Trump and others<\/strong>,” Asher concluded.\u00a0<\/p>\n
