Pete Hegseth Says Biden’s IRS Targeted Him With “Total Sham” Audit On Their Way Out The Door<\/span><\/p>\n

Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Monday accused the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) of targeting him with a politically motivated audit in the last days of the Biden regime, calling the move a \u201ctotal sham.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOf course the outgoing Biden IRS rushed an \u2018audit\u2019 of the incoming SecDef,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Hegseth wrote on his\u00a0official X account<\/a>, adding: \u201cTotal sham.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Hegseth included a photo of an IRS document stating that he and his wife Jennifer owed the government $33,558.16.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The IRS said the sum needed to be paid immediately to avoid further penalties.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe party of \u2018norms\u2019 and \u2018decency\u2019 strikes again. We will never back down,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>Hegseth wrote in his post.<\/p>\n

Commenting on the Defense Secretary\u2019s post, DOGE chief Elon Musk\u00a0wrote:<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThey love the low blows.\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

Hegseth was confirmed (51-50) as secretary of defense on January 24 with the help of Vice President JD Vance\u2019s tie-breaking vote.<\/p>\n

While the details of the IRS case against Hegseth remain sketchy, the incident is reminiscent of how the IRS was weaponized against political enemies during the Obama era.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Beginning in 2010, the IRS began\u00a0targeting conservatives groups<\/a>\u00a0for audits and excessive tax-exempt scrutiny.<\/p>\n

The IRS and FBI improperly targeted conservative nonprofit groups for special scrutiny ahead of the 2012 general election.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The IRS essentially stopped processing applications for 501(c)(4) tax-exemption status received from organizations with \u201cTea Party,\u201d \u201cpatriots,\u201d or \u201c9\/12\u201d in their names.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

During the same time period, the agency approved applications from several dozen liberal-leaning organizations whose names included terms such as \u201cprogressive,\u201d \u201cprogress,\u201d \u201cliberal,\u201d or \u201cequality.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
