{"id":1529947,"date":"2025-04-12T02:10:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-12T06:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1529947"},"modified":"2025-04-12T02:10:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-12T06:10:00","slug":"water-wars-begun-they-have","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/water-wars-begun-they-have\/1529947\/","title":{"rendered":"Water Wars, Begun They Have"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Water Wars, Begun They Have<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><strong>Water conflicts are on the rise around the world,<\/strong> according to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldwater.org\/water-conflict\/\">data<\/a>\u00a0from the Pacific Institute.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2025-04-11_12-28-51.jpg?itok=-L8xFfoi\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the first four years of this decade alone, there have been 785 recorded water conflicts worldwide.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/34162\/number-of-water-conflicts-worldwide\/\">As Statista&#8217;s Anna Fleck shows in the chart below,<\/a> this is <strong>already 27 percent higher than the number of conflicts linked to water resources of the entire decade from 2010-2019<\/strong>, when 620 such events were reported in total.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/34162\/number-of-water-conflicts-worldwide\/\" title=\"Infographic: Conflicts Over Water Are on the Rise | Statista\"><\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>You will find more infographics at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chartoftheday\/\">Statista<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The Pacific Institute\u2019s data is categorized based on the use, impact or effect that water has within a conflict and can be<strong> subdivided into three main groups.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The first is termed \u201c<strong>casualty<\/strong>\u201d and describes the loss of water resources or systems due to becoming intentional or incidental targets of violence.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The second is defined as a \u201c<strong>weapon<\/strong>\u201d, where water resources or systems are used as an instrument or weapon in a violent conflict.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The third and final group falls under \u201c<strong>trigger<\/strong>\u201d, which covers conflicts that are directly over the control of water.
