{"id":1531503,"date":"2025-04-21T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-21T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1531503"},"modified":"2025-04-21T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-21T16:00:00","slug":"knives-out-for-hegseth-new-allegations-of-opsec-failures-pentagon-mismanagement","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/knives-out-for-hegseth-new-allegations-of-opsec-failures-pentagon-mismanagement\/1531503\/","title":{"rendered":"Knives Out For Hegseth: New Allegations Of OPSEC Failures, Pentagon Mismanagement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Knives Out For Hegseth: New Allegations Of OPSEC Failures, Pentagon Mismanagement<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><strong>Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth is taking heavy fire once again.<\/strong> <strong>In what looks like a coordinated attack<\/strong>, Sunday brought\u00a0a sensational new allegation of Hegseth violating operational security (OPSEC) ahead of the March 15 US strikes on Yemen, and an op-ed from a former Hegseth advocate calling for his removal over &#8220;total chaos at the Pentagon.&#8221; While it&#8217;s hard to discern motives in DC&#8217;s <em>House of Cards<\/em> intrigue, the renewed assault comes after\u00a0<strong>Hegseth reportedly helped dissuade President Trump from launching Israel&#8217;s long-pursued US war on Iran<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Hegseth found himself in the middle of a media and political firestorm after <strong>he unwittingly shared <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hegseth-atlantic-war-plans-signal-yemen-houthis-c0addd08c627ab01a37ea63621cb695e\">detailed information<\/a> about pending US strikes on Yemen with <em>Atlantic<\/em> editor Jeffrey Goldberg<\/strong> &#8212; who was errantly added to a Signal group chat for top officials by national security advisor Mike Waltz .\u00a0Hegseth didn&#8217;t do himself any favors by downplaying the report and attempting to obfuscate the facts of the scandal &#8212; for example, using wordplay to claim &#8220;nobody was texting war plans,&#8221; but rather minute-by-minute details of the attack. Goldberg&#8217;s inclusion aside, <strong>the use of a common smartphone app to discuss such sensitive details was controversial by itself<\/strong>, raising concerns not only about OPSEC, but also records retention.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/pete%20jennifer%20hegseth.jpeg?itok=uaQW-ccw\"><strong>Did civilian Jennifer Hegseth have a need to know the 1st strike package of F-18s would launch at 12:15 ET on March 15, and that &#8220;THE FIRST BOMBS WILL DEFINITELY DROP&#8221; AT 1415, as Hegseth texted her and his brother?\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Fast-forward to Sunday, when a double-tap attack on Hegseth<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>started with a\u00a0<em>New York Times<\/em> report that<strong> Hegseth shared substantially identical, advance details about the March 15 strikes with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/20\/us\/politics\/hegseth-yemen-attack-second-signal-chat.html\">a second Signal chat group<\/a>, whose <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hegseth-signal-chat-houthis-attack-8dbf9dd6c711796438a5c1c84831c40b\">13<\/a> members included his wife Jennifer, brother Phil and personal lawyer Tim Parlatore<\/strong>. Citing four sources familiar with this group chat and its contents, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/20\/us\/politics\/hegseth-yemen-attack-second-signal-chat.html\"><em>Times<\/em><\/a> reported that this group &#8212; labelled &#8220;Defense\/Team Huddle&#8221; &#8212; was created by Hegseth himself, who accessed it with his private phone, not his government one.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>While his personal lawyer and brother have DOD jobs, neither seemingly had a &#8220;need to know&#8221; about the attacks. Hegseth appointed Parlatore as a Navy Reserve JAG Commander, with a focus on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2025\/03\/05\/us\/trump-news?searchResultPosition=7#hegseths-personal-lawyer-to-be-commissioned-as-a-navy-commander-in-the-reserves\">improving the training<\/a> of JAG officers. Phil Hegseth is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defensenews.com\/pentagon\/2025\/03\/28\/hegseths-younger-brother-is-serving-in-a-key-role-inside-the-pentagon\/\">DOD liaison with the Department of Homeland Security<\/a> &#8212; a post that hardly suggests a need to know about the imminent strike, much less a timeline <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/hegseth-atlantic-war-plans-signal-yemen-houthis-c0addd08c627ab01a37ea63621cb695e\">detailing<\/a> that F-18s, MQ-9 Reaper drones and Tomahawk cruise missiles would be used.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In other words, <strong>this scenario seems to indicate a Secretary of Defense excitedly and unjustifiably sharing inside info with his wife and confidants<\/strong>. Validating his confirmation-opponents&#8217; attacks on his lack of experience, the decision seems consistent with a SecDef whose own top military rank was <a href=\"https:\/\/ballotpedia.org\/Pete_Hegseth\">Major<\/a> in the National Guard. Meanwhile, the Signal chat about Yemen isn&#8217;t the first time <strong>Jennifer Hegseth&#8217;s involvement in her husband&#8217;s job has raised eyebrows<\/strong>. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/politics\/national-security\/hegseth-brought-his-wife-to-sensitive-meetings-with-foreign-military-officials-c16db0ea\">Questions have also been raised over why Jennifer &#8212; a former <em>Fox News<\/em> producer with no DOD job &#8212; has participated in multiple meetings that covered sensitive topics<\/a>, including one with the head of UK&#8217;s military to discuss terminating the sharing of intelligence with Ukraine.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/ullyot-hegseth.jpeg?itok=U5CzzD2i\"><strong>John Ullyot &#8212; who publicly advocated for Hegseth&#8217;s confirmation &#8212; now says Trump should dump him over Pentagon &#8220;dysfunction&#8221;<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The second half of the weekend blitz against Hegseth came in the form of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/magazine\/2025\/04\/20\/pentagon-chaos-ullyot-hegseth-00205594\"><em>Politico<\/em><\/a> op-ed written by John Ullyot<\/strong>, a former champion of Hegseth who resigned from a Department of Defense public affairs role last month. He described the last month as &#8220;total chaos at the Pentagon,&#8221; saying that, given President Trump&#8217;s &#8220;strong record of holding his top officials to account&#8230;<strong>it\u2019s hard to see Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth remaining in his role<\/strong> for much longer.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In addition to the poor OPSEC of &#8220;Signalgate&#8221; and Hegseth&#8217;s attempt to use a &#8220;vague, Clinton-esque non-denial denial&#8221; of the scandal, Hegseth focused on\u00a0<strong>last week&#8217;s firing of three top Pentagon staffers<\/strong>:<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>senior adviser Dan Caldwell, deputy chief of staff Darin Selnick and chief of staff Colin Carroll. Ullyot wrote that Hegseth loyalists &#8220;tried to smear the aides anonymously,&#8221; dishonestly accusing them of leaking sensitive information.\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Hegseth\u2019s team has developed a habit of spreading flat-out, easily debunked falsehoods anonymously about their colleagues on their way out the door,&#8221;<\/strong> wrote Ullyot. The &#8220;strange and baffling purge&#8221; is causing &#8220;disarray,&#8221; wrote Ullyot, who also called out the odd inclusion of Hegseth&#8217;s wife in sensitive meetings.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;The president deserves better than the current\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jel.jewish-languages.org\/words\/382\">mishegoss<\/a>\u00a0at the Pentagon,&#8221; <\/strong>concluded Ullyot. &#8220;Given his record of holding prior Cabinet leaders accountable, many in the secretary\u2019s own inner circle will applaud quietly if Trump [fires Hegseth].&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>No matter how much credence you attach to substance of these attacks on Hegseth, it&#8217;s smart to consider the possible motives<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>of those who are participating in them:<\/strong>\u00a0the four people volunteering details\u00a0about the newly-revealed Signal group chat, Hegseth cheerleader-turned-assailant John Ullyot, the <em>New York Times<\/em>, and especially <em>Politico<\/em> &#8212; an outlet with a record of advancing the Deep State agenda. Last week, the <em>Times<\/em> reported that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/04\/16\/us\/politics\/trump-israel-iran-nuclear.html\">Trump killed an Israeli proposal for a US-facilitated, week-long IDF bombing campaign on Iranian nuclear facilities in May, attributing the decision to key naysayers that included Hegseth<\/a>, Vice President JD Vance, Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.
