{"id":1532645,"date":"2025-04-26T23:50:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-27T03:50:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1532645"},"modified":"2025-04-26T23:50:00","modified_gmt":"2025-04-27T03:50:00","slug":"labor-secretary-warns-states-could-lose-federal-funding-if-illegal-immigrants-get-unemployment-benefits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/labor-secretary-warns-states-could-lose-federal-funding-if-illegal-immigrants-get-unemployment-benefits\/1532645\/","title":{"rendered":"Labor Secretary Warns States Could Lose Federal Funding If Illegal Immigrants Get Unemployment Benefits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Labor Secretary Warns States Could Lose Federal Funding If Illegal Immigrants Get Unemployment Benefits<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/secretary-of-labor-warns-states-could-lose-federal-funding-if-illegal-immigrants-get-unemployment-benefits-5848006?utm_source=partner&amp;utm_campaign=ZeroHedge\"><em>Authored by Naveen Athrappully via The Epoch Times,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>U.S. Secretary of Labor Lori Chavez-DeRemer warned states of losing federal funding if they fail to comply with President Donald Trump\u2019s directives on rewarding illegal immigrants with tax dollars, according to an April 25 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/newsroom\/releases\/osec\/osec20250425\">statement<\/a> issued by the Department of Labor.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cOur nation\u2019s unemployment benefits exist solely for workers who are eligible to receive them,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Chavez-DeRemer wrote in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dol.gov\/sites\/dolgov\/files\/OPA\/newsreleases\/2025\/04\/ETA20250661.pdf\">letter<\/a> addressed to state governors.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTo qualify for unemployment, one must be able and available to work, actively seeking work, and be legally authorized to accept employment in the United States. Unemployment benefits are not a handout for those in our country illegally.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The secretary reminded all states that failing to fulfill existing legal obligations will result in the loss of federal funding through the Title III UI administrative grant.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20-%202025-04-26T140708.263.jpg?itok=gTEIflo9\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\n<\/p>\n<p>The warning is pursuant to presidential memorandum, \u201cPreventing Illegal Aliens from Obtaining Social Security Act Benefits,\u201d and executive order 14218, \u201cEnding Taxpayer Subsidization of Open Borders.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chavez-DeRemer also reminded states of an earlier communication by Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem, based on which, states can access the DHS immigration <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2025\/04\/22\/dhs-uscis-doge-overhaul-systematic-alien-verification-entitlements-database\">database<\/a> called the Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE), at no cost and use it to verify the immigration status of benefit claimants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a \u201ccritical tool\u201d to ensure \u201cillegal immigrants do not access our nation\u2019s unemployment benefits,\u201d said the labor secretary.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result of this change, I instructed the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) to send a letter to all State Unemployment Insurance Administrators urging them to immediately start using SAVE for every initial and continued claim filed by an individual who indicates that they are not a U.S. citizen,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The SAVE database is aimed at helping agencies at federal, state, local, and tribal levels to confirm the immigration status and citizenship of individuals before issuing benefits.<\/p>\n<p>A presidential memorandum <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-to-sign-order-barring-illegal-immigrants-from-receiving-social-security-5842332\">signed on April 15<\/a>\u00a0directed multiple federal agencies to take steps to prevent ineligible people, such as illegal immigrants, from receiving social security benefits.<\/p>\n<p>An executive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/02\/ending-taxpayer-subsidization-of-open-borders\/\">order<\/a> issued on Feb. 19 asked agencies and departments to take action to ensure that \u201cno taxpayer-funded benefits go to unqualified aliens\u201d and to \u201cprevent taxpayer resources from acting as a magnet and fueling illegal immigration to the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to a Department of Government Efficiency finding released <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/illegal-immigrants-on-terror-watchlist-received-medicaid-unemployment-insurance-doge-5840846\">earlier this month<\/a>, 6,300 illegal immigrants on the terror watchlist had been receiving Medicaid and unemployment insurance.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Trump administration\u2019s immigration enforcement efforts have been met with challenges.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/federal-judge-blocks-trumps-efforts-to-defund-sanctuary-cities-5847071\">On April 24<\/a>, a federal judge issued an order blocking the administration from stripping federal taxpayer funding for cities that have adopted \u201csanctuary\u201d policies with regard to illegal immigrants.<\/p>\n<p>State and local governments with sanctuary policies block or restrict local officials from enforcing federal laws such as those related to immigration.<\/p>\n<p>The lawsuit was filed by over a dozen cities that would be affected by the cancellation of federal funding for \u201csanctuary\u201d cities.<\/p>\n<p>In his order, the judge said the administration\u2019s attempt amounts to a violation of the Constitution\u2019s separation of powers principles and banned the government from any further funding cuts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Meanwhile, the Trump administration is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/usda-directs-states-to-make-sure-illegal-immigrants-dont-receive-food-stamps-5847396\">looking to prevent<\/a> illegal immigrants from accessing the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) or food stamps.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On April 24, the Department of Agriculture asked states to take steps to this effect.<\/p>\n<p>States were asked to check the identities of people who apply for SNAP, collect their social security numbers, and verify their legal status in the United States.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>      <span class=\"field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden\"><a title=\"View user profile.\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/users\/tyler-durden\" class=\"username\">Tyler Durden<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden\">Sat, 04\/26\/2025 &#8211;
