The result could further destabilize the Austrian People\u2019s Party (\u00d6VP), which shunned the FP\u00d6 to form a national government with left-wing parties.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2025-04-28_05-38-47.jpg?itok=5jotSxPK\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Despite a drop in support, the Social Democratic Party (SP\u00d6) remained in first place to continue leading the Austrian capital.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>S\u00e1muel \u00c1goston Mr\u00e1z, director of the N\u00e9z\u0151pont Institute, told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/magyarnemzet.hu\/kulfold\/2025\/04\/becs-valasztas-ausztria-osztrak-szabadsagart\">Magyar Nemzet<\/a>\u00a0that the strengthening of the FP\u00d6 could have a serious impact on the rest of the country, as well as internationally. The chancellor\u2019s party plummeted to 9.6 percent\u2014a drop of 10.8 percentage points compared to 2020. There is already speculation in Viennese party circles about a possible resignation of the 70-year-old city party chairman, Karl Mahrer. Despite the defeat, the People\u2019s Party is determined to govern alongside the SP\u00d6.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Ludwig, the socialist mayor of Vienna, made it clear in a statement on Sunday evening that the SP\u00d6 remained the strongest party in the elections and that negotiations will begin with several parties about possible cooperation.<\/p>\n<p>\ud83c\udde6\ud83c\uddf9 This is now Vienna on a warm day. The party\u2019s secretary general, Douglas Hoyos, also welcomed the result, highlighting that NEOS achieved almost 10 percent, a historic high for the party in Vienna.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Judith P\u00fchringer, leader of the Greens, said the party\u2019s themes were in line with the SP\u00d6\u2019s goals. Werner Kogler, the party\u2019s national chairman, also confirmed that the Greens were ready to actively participate in shaping Vienna\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Although the Austrian People\u2019s Party (\u00d6VP) suffered heavy losses, party leader Karl Mahrer stated that if the mayor wanted to pursue a policy committed to the political center, economic stability, and social cohesion, the \u00d6VP was open to negotiations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Vienna leader of the Austrian Freedom Party, Dominik Nepp, told broadcaster ORF:<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cThe huge vote of confidence from the voters has been clearly demonstrated. We have tripled our support. This is a clear sign that people want change. From our perspective, a red-blue coalition would be what many people want. Mayor Ludwig must finally abandon his exclusionary policies. We will consistently monitor the functioning of Vienna!\u201d<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Herbert Kickl, national chairman of the FP\u00d6, also spoke:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201c<strong>The strong result of Dominik Nepp and the FP\u00d6 shows that people in Vienna also want change,<\/strong> and change that puts the people back at the center of politics.
