Tether Plans US Stablecoin Launch As Soon As This Year; Report<\/span><\/p>\n

Tether plans to launch a stablecoin product in the United States as soon as this year, the stablecoin issuer\u2019s CEO, Paul Ardoino, said in an April 30 CNBC interview.<\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

Tether\u2019s flagship stablecoin, USDt, is already the US dollar\u2019s top \u201cexporter,\u201d <\/strong>Ardoino\u00a0told<\/a>\u00a0CNBC.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

It has a market capitalization of nearly $150 billion, according to\u00a0data<\/a>\u00a0from CoinGecko.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Now, Tether is preparing to expand into the US market \u201cby the end of this year or early next year, at the fastest,\u201d<\/strong> Ardoino said, adding that the timing depends on US lawmakers\u2019 progress on stablecoin legislation.<\/p>\n

The stablecoin issuer is working to woo US regulators by proactively collaborating with law enforcement and highlighting USDt\u2019s benefits for the US economy.<\/p>\n

“We are just exporters of what we believe to be the best product the United States ever created \u2014 that is, the US dollar,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> the CEO said.<\/p>\n

Market leader<\/h2>\n

As of April 25, USDt\u00a0commanded a roughly 66% market share<\/a>\u00a0among stablecoins, according to Nansen, a Web3 researcher.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Tether is also the most profitable stablecoin issuer, logging a\u00a0net income of nearly $14 billion<\/a>\u00a0in 2024.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

It earns revenue by accepting US dollars to mint USDt and then investing those dollars into highly liquid, yield-bearing instruments such as US Treasury bills.\u00a0Still, USDt\u2019s popularity is largely limited to users outside of the United States, where rival stablecoin USDC is dominant.<\/p>\n

Tether designed USDt \u201cfor the people that live in small villages in Africa… [or] a shop owner in Istanbul,\u201d <\/strong>Ardoino told CNBC, adding that Tether is developing a \u201cdifferent product\u201d for the US.<\/p>\n

Adoption of USDC has accelerated in the wake of US President Donald Trump\u2019s November election win, Nansen said in an April 25 report.\u00a0Circle\u2019s USDC has a market capitalization of more than $60 billion, CoinGecko data shows.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, USDt is still\u00a0likely to maintain its leading position<\/a>\u00a0in the stablecoin market.\u00a0 \u201cDespite the potential dispersion in stables, we inevitably believe this is a \u2018winner-takes-most\u2019 market dynamic,\u201d the Web3 researcher added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
