They are also adjusted for inflation, taxes, and benefits.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u2139\ufe0f PPP-adjusted International dollars reflect\u00a0<strong>purchasing power<\/strong>\u00a0by accounting for local prices and cost of living.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Important note: #4 Japan, #11 South Korea, and #19 Saudi Arabia are excluded due to missing data. Poland, Taiwan, and Belgium are included in their place.<\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Countries by GDP, Daily Median Incomes, and Income Growth<\/h2>\n<p>There\u2019s two different takeaways from this chart. One is which top 20 economies have the\u00a0<strong>highest average incomes<\/strong>\u00a0in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>The other is where incomes have\u00a0<strong>grown<\/strong>\u00a0the most.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2025-05-02_12-12-17.jpg?itok=7g1nJLjy\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>Note: *Australia\u2019s change is between 1994\u20132023 due to data restraints.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For example, incomes in\u00a0<strong>China<\/strong>\u00a0have grown 6x between 1994\u20132024, after adjusting for inflation. However in 2024 this still only amounted to $12 (international dollars) per person on average.<\/p>\n<p>\u2139\ufe0f Per capita income is attributed to all residents including\u00a0<strong>children and retirees<\/strong>. The median income could theoretically be between 2\u20134x for a working individual.<\/p>\n<p>In other developing countries (Indonesia, Poland, and T\u00fcrkiye), daily incomes have tripled. Of these three Poland is the only one that\u2019s moved from a low- to high-income country by 2024.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<strong>the U.S.<\/strong>, the daily average income has only gone up about 30% over the same period. But the country is second-richest in this dataset, after Switzerland.<\/p>\n<h2>How the U.S. Ranks in Income Growth vs. Peer Countries<\/h2>\n<p>Interestingly, the U.S. has the least median income growth versus peers like Germany, UK, and France.<\/p>\n<p>In other social metrics, the U.S. is lagging its counterparts. Its life expectancy is a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualcapitalist.com\/charted-how-american-life-expectancy-compares-to-its-peers\/\">full four years<\/a>\u00a0below its high-income counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>And this despite having the highest\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualcapitalist.com\/life-expectancies-vs-health-spending-per-capita\/\">health expenditure<\/a>\u00a0in a similar group.<\/p>\n<p>It also has one of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualcapitalist.com\/wealth-inequality-by-country\/\">highest inequality scores<\/a>\u00a0amongst its peers.<\/p>\n<p><em>While a lot of American media is focused on income and wealth inequality,\u00a0<strong>U.S. incomes<\/strong>\u00a0far outpace many other countries.
