{"id":1534626,"date":"2025-05-07T13:45:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-07T17:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1534626"},"modified":"2025-05-07T13:45:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T17:45:00","slug":"us-intel-agencies-ordered-to-target-greenland-as-takeover-plotting-intensifies","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/us-intel-agencies-ordered-to-target-greenland-as-takeover-plotting-intensifies\/1534626\/","title":{"rendered":"US Intel Agencies Ordered To Target Greenland As Takeover Plotting Intensifies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">US Intel Agencies Ordered To Target Greenland As Takeover Plotting Intensifies<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>In the latest indicator of President Trump&#8217;s determination to close America&#8217;s biggest-ever land acquisition by whatever means necessary, <strong>US intelligence agencies have been directed to step up their efforts to gather information about Greenland, Denmark and their internal political dynamics,\u00a0<\/strong>according to two people &#8220;familiar with the effort&#8221; who leaked the news to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/greenland-spying-us-intelligence-809c4ef2?mod=hp_lead_pos2\"><em>The Wall Street Journal<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard lashed out at the leaks:\u00a0<strong>\u201c<em>The Wall Street Journal <\/em>should be ashamed of aiding deep state actors who seek to undermine the President<\/strong> by politicizing and leaking classified information. They are breaking the law and undermining our nation\u2019s security and democracy.\u201d Opting against similar fire-breathing, National Security Council spokesman James Hewitt was restrained: <strong>\u201cThe president has been very clear that the U.S. is concerned about the security of Greenland and the Arctic,\u201d<\/strong> he told the <em>Journal<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/greenland-ice-sheet-1550x804.jpg?itok=ox7FFhtX\"><strong>80% of Greenland is covered by a vast ice sheet up to 2 miles thick &#8212; with many mineral treasures beneath (via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.carbonbrief.org\/guest-post-greenland-ice-sheet-2017\/\"><em>CarbonBrief<\/em><\/a>)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to the <em>Journal&#8217;s<\/em> sources, the directive came last week by way of a <strong>&#8220;collection emphasis message,&#8221;<\/strong> sent by several senior intelligence officials to subordinate agency leaders. As its name implies, this type of message shapes the priorities with which assets are assigned to various intelligence missions. The agencies are now tasked with:<\/p>\n<p>Gathering information about Greenland&#8217;s independence movement<br \/>\n\tAssessing Greenlanders&#8217; sentiments about US extraction of its wealth of resources<br \/>\n\tIdentifying backers of a US takeover of the island &#8212; in both Greenland and Denmark\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s not clear which of the intel community&#8217;s many tools &#8212; which include <strong>spy satellites, drones, communications surveillance and covert operatives<\/strong> &#8212; will be used to harvest information about political movements and individuals in Greenland and Denmark.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>American spies in Greenland. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/sQqnSXcbbC\">pic.twitter.com\/sQqnSXcbbC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Hoodlum \ud83c\uddfa\ud83c\uddf8 (@NotHoodlum) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NotHoodlum\/status\/1919948240146882565?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">May 7, 2025<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Attempting to cast the directive as unusual,\u00a0a\u00a0former intelligence official told the <em>Journal<\/em> that <strong>\u201cintelligence collection resources are inherently limited&#8221;<\/strong> and are typically directed against &#8220;perceived threats, not allied countries.&#8221; However true that is, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/political\/trump-says-nothing-table-obtaining-greenland\">Trump&#8217;s rhetoric<\/a> about his desire for Greenland has certainly broken the mold. Most recently, in his weekend <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/trump-administration\/read-full-transcript-president-donald-trump-interviewed-meet-press-mod-rcna203514\">interview<\/a> with <em>NBC&#8217;<\/em>s Kristen Welker, <strong>Trump wouldn&#8217;t eliminate the possibility of an American military conquest<\/strong> of the territory:<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cI don\u2019t rule it out. I don\u2019t say I\u2019m going to do it, but I don\u2019t rule out anything. No, not there. <strong>We need Greenland very badly. Greenland is a very small amount of people, which we\u2019ll take care of<\/strong>, and we\u2019ll cherish them, and all of that. But we need that for international security.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The island holds an enormous wealth of natural resources, most notably<strong> one of the largest rare earth deposits outside of China<\/strong>. It also sits alongside emerging shipping lanes, and established transatlantic air and sea routes.\u00a0Greenland is already home to the US military&#8217;s northernmost air base: Pituffik Air Base. Situated 750 miles above the Arctic Circle, the base has ballistic missile early-warning assets, and is also used by Space Command and the North American Aerospace Defense Command.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/us%20greenland%20comparision%20size.jpeg?itok=PUduicxk\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In March, <strong>Vice President JD Vance and then-national security advisor Mike Waltz visited the US base<\/strong>. Danish Prime Minister\u00a0Mette Frederiksen objected, saying it put \u201ccompletely unacceptable pressure on Greenland, Greenlandic politicians and the Greenlandic population.&#8221; Speaking at the base, Vance issued his own strong statement:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>&#8220;Our message to Denmark is very simple: You have not done a good job by the people of Greenland&#8230;<\/strong>Denmark has not kept pace and devoted the resources necessary to keep this base, to keep our troops, and in my view, to keep the people of Greenland safe from a lot of very aggressive incursions from Russia, from China, and other nations.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>If Trump pulls it off, it would surpass the Louisiana Purchase <\/strong>as the largest-ever expansion of American territory. A largely self-governing part of the Kingdom of Denmark, Greenland is truly massive. At <strong>836,000 square miles<\/strong>, it&#8217;s triple the size of Texas.
