{"id":1535503,"date":"2025-05-12T06:45:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-12T10:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1535503"},"modified":"2025-05-12T06:45:00","modified_gmt":"2025-05-12T10:45:00","slug":"russia-considered-the-biggest-threat-to-peace-in-europe","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/russia-considered-the-biggest-threat-to-peace-in-europe\/1535503\/","title":{"rendered":"Russia Considered The Biggest Threat To Peace In Europe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Russia Considered The Biggest Threat To Peace In Europe<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>After\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pax_Europaea\">decades of relative peace in Europe<\/a>\u00a0following the end of World War II, with a few notable exceptions, <strong>Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine served as a stark reminder that the specter of war is still alive. <\/strong>Within a few days in February 2022, millions of lives were turned upside down and Europe\u2019s sense of safety was deeply rattled.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/34424\/threats-to-peace-in-europe\/\">As Statista&#8217;s Felix Richter notes,<\/a> <strong>the longer the war dragged on, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/34422\/concerns-about-armed-conflict-in-europe\/\">more aware Europeans became of the looming threat<\/a>\u00a0that Putin\u2019s Russia poses to European peace,<\/strong> especially after Donald Trump was re-elected and immediately threatened to withdraw support for Ukraine and questioned the U.S. commitment to NATO, which had effectively shielded Western Europe from Russian aggression for decades.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/1dsob1_0.jpg?itok=f2ArWeV-\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>According to a new\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/yougov.co.uk\/international\/articles\/52113-many-europeans-and-americans-think-world-war-3-is-imminent\">YouGov survey<\/a>, <strong>many Europeans even consider World War III a possibility, with at least 30 percent of respondents in France, Spain, Italy, Germany and the UK saying that it\u2019s very or fairly likely that there will be another world war in the next 5-10 years.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/34424\/threats-to-peace-in-europe\/\" title=\"Infographic: Russia Considered the Biggest Threat to Peace in Europe | Statista\"><\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>You will find more infographics at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chartoftheday\/\">Statista<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>With respect to Europe, tensions with Russia are seen as the biggest threat by far.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Around 50 percent of respondents from Germany, France and the UK said that Russia poses a major threat to peace in Europe, while tensions between Europe and the U.S. and between European nations are not perceived as an imminent threat.<\/p>\n<p>It is this feeling of insecurity that has given Europe\u2019s politicians the mandate to ramp up\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/34367\/global-military-expenditure-by-region-since-1992\/\">defense spending<\/a>\u00a0in an unprecedented fashion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Aside from <strong>national defense budgets rising steeply,<\/strong> the European Commission is also working on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/34051\/eu-plan-to-boost-defense-spending\/\">ways to improve European security<\/a>\u00a0and<strong> limiting the continent\u2019s historical reliance on the United States<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>      <span class=\"field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden\"><a title=\"View user profile.\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/users\/tyler-durden\" class=\"username\">Tyler Durden<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden\">Mon, 05\/12\/2025 &#8211;
