{"id":1539389,"date":"2025-06-02T11:45:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-02T15:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1539389"},"modified":"2025-06-02T11:45:00","modified_gmt":"2025-06-02T15:45:00","slug":"trump-endorsed-nationalist-narrowly-wins-polish-presidential-election","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/trump-endorsed-nationalist-narrowly-wins-polish-presidential-election\/1539389\/","title":{"rendered":"Trump-Endorsed Nationalist Narrowly Wins Polish Presidential Election"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Trump-Endorsed Nationalist Narrowly Wins Polish Presidential Election<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>In Poland&#8217;s extraordinarily tight and closely-watched presidential run-off election, <strong>a staunch nationalist conservative on Sunday defeated a pro-EU liberal in an outcome that promises economic and geopolitical implications.<\/strong>\u00a0With 100% of the precincts reporting, conservative historian Karol Nawrocki had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-06-02\/polish-nationalist-nawrocki-wins-presidential-election?sref=6uww027M\">50.9% of the votes<\/a>, compared to 49.1% for leftist Warsaw Mayor Rafal Trzaskowski, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/06\/01\/world\/europe\/poland-election-president.html\">prematurely declared victory<\/a> on Sunday evening after the first exit polls showed him at 50.3%.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Among the key issues in the election were <strong>immigration, abortion, support for Ukraine, and Polish integration with the rest of Europe<\/strong>.\u00a0When he takes office on August 6, Nawrocki &#8212; a former boxer who leads the Institute for National Remembrance &#8212; will succeed term-limited President Andrzej Duda. Like Nawrocki, Duda is associated with the right-wing Law and Justice (PiS) party.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Gp5yT_rXEAAKXTN.jpg?itok=iad22-Wc\"><strong>Karol Nawrocki was endorsed by President Trump, who hosted him at the White House in May<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Before the final tally, Nawrocki was optimistic, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2025\/06\/01\/world\/europe\/poland-election-president.html\">saying<\/a>\u00a0\u201cI believe we will all wake up tomorrow morning with President Nawrocki putting the broken Poland back together.\u201d He also quoted the Bible, <strong>saying God would &#8220;heal the land&#8221; of good people who \u201cturn away from wicked ways.<\/strong>&#8220;<\/p>\n<p>Voicing Poland-first sentiments, Nawrocki previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/polish-presidential-candidate-nawrocki-reminds-170251066.html\">said<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;We cannot afford actions that harm our economy, agriculture, people\u2019s wallets or the functioning of our social welfare systems. <strong>All decisions regarding the future of our good economic and political cooperation, including with Ukraine, will be based solely on the interests of Poland and Poles<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>He has also <strong>warned against Ukrainian accession to NATO<\/strong> anytime soon, <a href=\"https:\/\/brusselssignal.eu\/2025\/05\/polish-pis-presidential-candidate-takes-poll-lead-says-no-to-ukraine-in-nato\/#google_vignette\">saying<\/a>\u00a0&#8220;It would be dangerous for Ukraine to be allowed into NATO as it would mean that the whole of the alliance would straight away be in a war with Russia.\u201d He also said\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-05-22\/polish-presidential-hopeful-says-opposes-ukraine-joining-nato?sref=6uww027M\">\u201cThe discussion about Ukraine\u2019s entry to NATO is pointless<\/a>&#8230;[Given its corruption], the Ukrainian state is not ready for many processes.\u201d\u00a0However, he&#8217;s also said, &#8220;we will continue, when I become president, to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/polish-presidential-candidate-nawrocki-reminds-170251066.html\">support Ukraine in the face of the Russian Federation\u2019s threat, which is also hostile to us<\/a>. That is self-evident.&#8221;\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.euractiv.com\/section\/politics\/news\/pis-candidate-goes-hard-on-russia-opts-for-cutting-diplomatic-ties-after-criticising-zelenskyy\/\">hammered<\/a> Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky:\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cThe Ukrainian president behaves in an indecent manner toward his allies, including Poland.<\/strong> He claimed that Ukraine was left alone at the start of the war, which shows he failed to recognise the significant efforts of the Polish people and the Polish president\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/GsZ-ouYXcAAOytF.jpg?itok=LPcZ1Tp1\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>President Trump endorsed Nawrocki, welcoming him to the White House<\/strong> in May and dispatching Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem to a May 27 Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) meeting in Warsaw where she implored Poles to put Nawrocki in office: &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/poland-us-cpac-mneeting-noem-da2fe440738cf967b2951f1e344770bc\">I just had the opportunity to meet with Karol and listen &#8212; he needs to be the next president of Poland.<\/a> Do you understand me?\u201d\u00a0Noem also trashed Trzaskowski as \u201can absolute train wreck of a leader.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Heading into the runoff, the <strong>Polish stock market had rocketed ahead by 27% over the year to date<\/strong>, and 61% in dollar terms since the last parliamentary election, while government bonds returned 28%. Many observers expected a Nawrocki win to be a negative for the country&#8217;s markets. &#8220;<strong>It&#8217;s possible that the more NATO-skeptic Nawrocki may position Poland in a less favorable position when the time comes to rebuild Ukraine<\/strong> &#8211; a theme that has attracted investors to the Warsaw bourse of late,&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morningstar.com\/news\/marketwatch\/20250530198\/one-of-the-best-performing-stock-markets-of-2025-is-facing-a-big-risk-this-weekend\">noted<\/a> Dow Jones&#8217; Jamie Chisholm last week. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morningstar.com\/news\/marketwatch\/20250530198\/one-of-the-best-performing-stock-markets-of-2025-is-facing-a-big-risk-this-weekend\">Polish equities are trading at an average 9.7 PE<\/a> ratio relative to estimated earnings for the coming 12 months, compared to 14.7 for the Euro STOXX 50.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/dims.apnews_7.jpeg?itok=hjhwNTTv\"><strong>Victorious nationalist presidential candidate Karol Nawrocki speaks to supporters after the polls closed on Sunday <\/strong>(A<a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/poland-presidential-election-karol-nawrocki-80a99eeb7a2f3ae64260a9263e7028ee\">P Photo<\/a> &#8211; Czarek Sokolowski)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Political power in Poland is concentrated in the parliament and the prime minister, but, critically, <strong>presidents have the power to veto legislation and nominate the leader of the central bank<\/strong>.\u00a0Nawrocki campaigned on the need for a check on what he called Tusk&#8217;s political &#8220;monopoly&#8221; over national policy. Duda has thwarted Tusk&#8217;s effort to fulfill campaign promises to loosen abortion restrictions and allow civil partnerships for homosexual couples.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As the race headed down the home stretch, several members of the US House of Representatives sent a <a href=\"https:\/\/foreignaffairs.house.gov\/press-release\/chairman-mast-blasts-eu-inaction-as-polish-globalists-undermine-free-election\/\">letter<\/a> to\u00a0European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen <strong>alleging possible foreign interference in the election,\u00a0<\/strong>in the form of illegal spending on ads by an Austrian company with ties to the US Democratic Party, and by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/us-lawmakers-demand-answers-brussels-over-alleged-foreign-interference-polish-election\">an NGO that&#8217;s received money from George Soros-funded organizations<\/a>. The letter also demanded answers about liberal Prime Minister Donald Tusk&#8217;s government\u2019s &#8220;monthslong refusal to release tens of millions of dollars in public campaign funding that PiS is legally entitled to receive.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Turnout Polish presidents are elected to five-year terms, and they can only be re-elected once. The next major milestone in the country will come with 2027&#8217;s parliamentary elections.\u00a0<strong>Nawrocki&#8217;s victory comes amid a string of elections across Europe pitting EU- and NATO-catering leftists against conservative nationalists. <\/strong>In mid-May, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/what-comes-next-after-allegedly-fraudulent-liberal-globalist-victory-romania\">nationalist Romanian presidential candidate George Simion lost <\/a>to centrist Bucharest mayor Nicusor Dan, following an election saga that saw the leading nationalist candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/democracy-dies-romania-after-winning-december-georgescu-now-banned-may-presidential\">banned from running<\/a> and arrested.
