{"id":1539744,"date":"2025-06-04T00:55:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T04:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1539744"},"modified":"2025-06-04T00:55:00","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T04:55:00","slug":"fda-launches-new-ai-tool","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/fda-launches-new-ai-tool\/1539744\/","title":{"rendered":"FDA Launches New AI Tool"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">FDA Launches New AI Tool<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/health\/fda-launches-new-ai-tool-5866991?utm_source=partner&amp;utm_campaign=ZeroHedge\"><em>Authored by Zachary Stieber via The Epoch Times,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Food and Drug Administration on June 2 launched a new artificial intelligence (AI) tool.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20%2881%29_6.jpg?itok=dx3J6KYh\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>FDA officials said Elsa, the tool, will help employees \u201cwork more efficiently.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The agency is utilizing Elsa to speed up clinical protocol reviews and scientific evaluations, as well as to identify targets for inspections.<\/p>\n<p>FDA officials described Elsa as a \u201clarge language model\u2013powered AI tool designed to assist with reading, writing, and summarizing.\u201d They said it can summarize adverse events to help with safety profile assessments, compare labels faster than humans, and generate code to help develop databases.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cToday marks the dawn of the AI era at the FDA with the release of Elsa, AI is no longer a distant promise but a dynamic force enhancing and optimizing the performance and potential of every employee,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> FDA Chief AI Officer Jeremy Walsh <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fda.gov\/news-events\/press-announcements\/fda-launches-agency-wide-ai-tool-optimize-performance-american-people\">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>AI refers to computer systems that perform complex tasks typically performed by humans.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Marty Makary, the FDA\u2019s commissioner, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/health\/fda-to-deploy-artificial-intelligence-across-agency-5854634\">said<\/a> in May that the FDA would immediately start using AI and fully integrate it by the end of June.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cFollowing a very successful pilot program with FDA\u2019s scientific reviewers, I set an aggressive timeline to scale AI agency-wide by June 30,\u201d Makary said on Monday. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cToday\u2019s rollout of Elsa is ahead of schedule and under budget, thanks to the collaboration of our in-house experts across the centers.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who leads the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the FDA\u2019s parent agency, cheered the development, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SecKennedy\/status\/1929656129312952697\">calling<\/a> it \u201ca revolution in public health\u201d in a post on social media platform X.<\/p>\n<p>The FDA recently fired thousands of employees. HHS officials had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hhs.gov\/press-room\/hhs-restructuring-doge-fact-sheet.html\">said<\/a> they would cut about 3,500 full-time workers but ended up terminating about 2,500 workers, according to a Senate Democrat <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/health\/health-department-primarily-cut-jobs-at-fda-cdc-senate-report-5857274\">report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Makary told a congressional panel during a recent appearance that no scientific reviewers were fired, although some research scientists were among those terminated.<\/p>\n<p>President Donald Trump has promoted the use of AI, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/removing-barriers-to-american-leadership-in-artificial-intelligence\/\">saying<\/a> in one order that \u201cwith the right Government policies, we can solidify our position as the global leader in AI and secure a brighter future for all Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The first report from Trump\u2019s Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) Commission, headed by Kennedy, contained markers of AI, including nonexistent studies and multiple instances of \u201coaicite,\u201d which developers say is inserted by OpenAI\u2019s ChatGPT AI tool.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe pattern is consistent with other cases we\u2019ve seen of using generative AI to create citations,\u201d Dr. Ivan Oransky, co-founder of Retraction Watch and executive director of The Center for Scientific Integrity, told The Epoch Times in an email.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cThe fact that these fake citations made it into the report are evidence that no one checked the report for rigor.
