Professor Sends Email Encouraging Campus To Join LA Protests Against ICE<\/span><\/p>\n

An English instructor at Glendale Community College recently sent an email encouraging the campus community to join in protests against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The call came as riotous demonstrations in downtown Los Angeles have included destruction of property, looting, arson incidents, and the injury of at least five police officers.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, Julie Gamberg, a faculty member at Glendale Community College, sent an email promoting anti-ICE demonstrations organized by the Democratic Socialists of America\u2019s Los Angeles chapter, according to screenshots of the note circulated on X.<\/p>\n

\u201cCitizens who know their rights can disrupt and slow ICE incursions,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>states a DSA flier Gamberg embedded in her email.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to share that Glendale has a contract to hold ICE detainees and there is some mobilizing around Tuesday\u2019s city council meeting,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>Gamberg stated in her memo to the community college\u2019s \u201cIssues\u201d email listserv.<\/p>\n

She included a link to a\u00a0Los Angeles Times<\/em>\u00a0article headlined: \u201cLA suburb is holding ICE detainees in its jail, sidelining sanctuary rules.\u201d<\/p>\n

The email touted plans to fight law enforcement efforts on both Monday and Tuesday of this week, one being a rally in Grand Park in LA against the detainment of a local union leader, and the second targeting the Glendale council meeting.<\/p>\n

Faculty at Glendale Community College and other institutions have been advised by their respective administrations NOT TO interfere with DHS or ICE activities.<\/p>\n

The park protest was\u00a0described<\/a>\u00a0by the\u00a0LA Times<\/em>\u00a0as \u201cpeaceful and boisterous.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThey sang, chanted, and held signs with slogans such as, \u2018Warm Margaritas B-Cuz F\u2014 ICE.\u2019 <\/strong><\/em>Their presence was in stark contrast to the downtown surrounding them, which was quiet, heavily vandalized and lined with police and National Guard vehicles.\u201d<\/p>\n

As for Gamberg, her X bio states \u201cLiberation Pedagogy\u201d as well as \u201cBlack Lives Matter,\u201d according to screenshots.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy is GCC allowing their teachers to directly [organize] against ICE and interfere with authorities?\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>asked<\/a>\u00a0Sarah Fields, a conservative activist who posted the screenshots.<\/p>\n

Gamberg and Glendale Community College\u2019s media affairs division could not be immediately reached for comment late Tuesday by\u00a0The College Fix.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
