{"id":1541577,"date":"2025-06-13T14:16:27","date_gmt":"2025-06-13T18:16:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1541577"},"modified":"2025-06-13T14:16:27","modified_gmt":"2025-06-13T18:16:27","slug":"tariff-derangement-sydrome-remains-as-umich-sentiment-surges-in-early-june","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/tariff-derangement-sydrome-remains-as-umich-sentiment-surges-in-early-june\/1541577\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Tariff Derangement Sydrome&#8217; Remains As UMich Sentiment Surges In Early June"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">&#8216;Tariff Derangement Sydrome&#8217; Remains As UMich Sentiment Surges In Early June<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><strong>Just days after CPI disappointed the the Trump Tariff infation fear-mongers<\/strong> once again and a month since the UMich survey found that &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/personal-finance\/umich-sentiment-collapses-near-45-year-record-lows-democrats-inflation-dissonance\">Women, Democrats, &amp; Low-Income Americans Are Out Of Their TDS-Addled Minds<\/a>&#8220;, and one week after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/economics\/goldman-kills-right-tail-no-longer-expects-sustained-tariff-inflation\">Goldman finally called out the idiocy of the UMich survey<\/a>, slamming its &#8220;<strong>partisanship<\/strong>&#8221; and the &#8220;<strong>sample design break starting from June 2024<\/strong>&#8220;&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/adjustged%20for%20partianship_0.jpg?itok=f1G_OJGS\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; not to mention that it has been <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/economics\/goldman-kills-right-tail-no-longer-expects-sustained-tariff-inflation\">chronically wrong<\/a>, <\/strong>warning that &#8220;Michigan inflation expectations have already risen <strong>even more than in 2022 <\/strong>and this time long-term expectations have risen sharply too, all before tariffs have even meaningfully boosted consumer prices&#8221; while &#8220;technicalities have exaggerated the increase in the Michigan [inflation] survey, as other survey measures and market-implied inflation compensation have not risen much at horizons beyond the next year&#8221;, moments ago the preliminary UMich survey for the month of June saw sharp revisions to the prelim prints, to wit:<\/p>\n<p>The headline <strong>Sentiment <\/strong>print jumped dramatically from<strong>\u00a0its\u00a0lowest since May 1980 &#8211; to 60.5, <\/strong>well above the median estimate of 53.6<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Current Conditions <\/strong>print also surged from 58.9 to 63.7, well above expectations.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Expectations <\/strong>print spiked to 58.4 from 47.9 and above the median estimate of 49.7<\/p>\n<p><strong>That is the biggest MoM jump in the Headline Sentiment index since January 2024&#8230;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bfmD903_0.jpg?itok=bOrTMBbR\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Source: Bloomberg<\/p>\n<p><strong>These trends were unanimous across the distributions of age, income, wealth, political party, and geographic region. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/bfm7EF3.jpg?itok=kArm2js6\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Source: Bloomberg<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, all five index components rose, with a particularly steep increase for short and long-run expected business conditions, consistent with a perceived easing of pressures from tariffs.
