Professor Of War Warns Many European Countries Are In A ‘Pre-Civil-War’ State<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the globe\u2019s leading experts on war has warned that many European countries are on the verge of civil war and may already be past the point of no return.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

David Betz,\u00a0Professor of War in the Modern World at King\u2019s College London, says his research shows is a statistically significant chance of a civil war breaking out within five years in a major European country, with a distinct possibility that the conflict could spill over to neighbouring Nations.<\/p>\n

Speaking to documentarian\u00a0Andrew Gold, Betz further noted that it is likely too late to prevent things getting \u201cvery much worse\u201d in Europe, and that governments may only be able to better prepare for the inevitable.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

\u201cI would probably avoid big cities. I would suggest you reduce your exposure to big cities if you are able,\u201d Betz chillingly urged.<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cthere isn\u2019t anything they can do, it\u2019s baked in. We\u2019re already past the tipping point, is my estimation\u2026 we are past the point at which there is a political offramp. We are past the point at which normal politics is able to solve the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n

Betz emphasised that \u201calmost every plausible way forward from here involves some kind of violence in my view.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAnything the government tries to do at this point\u2026 you can solve one kind of problem, but it will aggravate another kind of problem in doing so, and you get back to violence,\u201d the professor continued.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe question really is about mitigating the costs, to my mind, not about preventing the outcome, I\u2019m sorry to say\u2026 I have not heard a credible political way forward and I don\u2019t see a single political figure who is credible in the role of national saviour, or even inclined to do so,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe bottom line is I don\u2019t think there is now a political solution to this which takes the form of everything just working out OK after some period of difficulty,\u201d Betz grimly concludes, noting \u201cThings are bad now, but they are going to get very much worse.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully after they will get better, but you will have to go through the period of very much worse before you get there,\u201d he predicted.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s a downward spiral, essentially.<\/p>\n

\u201cI understand what I say is extremely unpleasant\u201d, Betz said, further remarking:\u00a0\u201cI just want to say dear elites, the consequences of your actions have arrived.\u201d<\/p>\n

Betz notes that the United Kingdom, France, and Sweden all already have \u201cdire social instability\u201d, \u201ceconomic decline\u201d, and \u201celite pusillanimity\u201d, all historically precursors to conflict.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

The academic estimates that a civil war in the UK, which now has a population of 70 million, could mean tens of thousands of deaths.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe most unstable are moderately homogenous societies\u201d, Betz has previously observed, noting that legacy majority groups feel their status being threatened or about to be completely replaced and they are more likely to\u00a0fight to retain dominance.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

While\u00a0research has indicated<\/a>\u00a0that the UK is on course to become a minority white country within decades, Betz predicts that\u00a0it won\u2019t actually happen because enough native Britons may move to reverse the trend.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou could make such an argument, but that\u2019s, I think, making a lot of assumptions about people\u2019s likely response to things. I don\u2019t think that society is so inert\u201d, Betz said, adding \u201cI just don\u2019t think the British people want to be displaced from their own country\u2026 I think people are going to reject that. And they are already, people are already perceiving an urgency to act to prevent the loss of something they feel very strongly about still.\u201d<\/p>\n

Betz further asserted that \u201cthe existence of this idea [of England]\u2026 is very seriously in peril\u2026 how [people] react against that is the question. There\u2019s a grave potential for them to react in ways that take us right off the scale. I hope that doesn\u2019t occur, but we are at a very perilous moment.\u201d<\/p>\n
