Hochul: &#8216;New York Is Providing $50 Million To Cover Legal Services&#8217; For Illegal Aliens<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2025\/06\/18\/gov-hochul-new-york-is-providing-50-million-to-cover-legal-services-for-illegal-aliens\/\"><em>Authored by Debra Heine via American Greatness,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Governor Kathy Hochul (D-N.Y.) announced Tuesday that the state of New York will provide $50 million in taxpayer dollars to pay legal fees for illegal immigrants to help them fight back against the Trump administration\u2019s popular deportation efforts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/GettyImages-2219945220-e17502785.jpg?itok=spdBjWRE\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The governor highlighted the state\u2019s \u201cinvestment\u201d during a dramatic\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/transcript-photos-governor-hochul-speaks-regarding-arrest-brad-lander\">news conference<\/a>\u00a0addressing the arrest of New York City comptroller and mayoral candidate Brad Lander, who was busted by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/foxnews.com\/category\/politics\/executive\/homeland-security\">Department of Homeland Security<\/a>\u00a0(DHS) agents earlier Tuesday for allegedly assaulting a federal officer.<\/p>\n<p>Hochul said she believed the charges against Lander had been dropped, but added that she was still concerned about illegal aliens being \u201ctaken away from their families\u201d in New York.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThey don\u2019t have the attention, they don\u2019t have the lawyers and that\u2019s why the State of New York is providing 50 million dollars to cover legal services for people who are finding themselves in this situation,\u201d<\/em> Hochul said. <strong>&#8220;We continue to do what we can to support the communities and the immigration coalitions and thank them for their work they\u2019re doing at this time.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Video footage of Lander\u2019s arrest shows him tussling with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents as they escorted a defendant out of immigration court and repeatedly asking officials if they had a judicial warrant.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI will let go when you show me the judicial warrant!\u201d Lander said in the video. \u201cWhere is it?! Where is the warrant?!\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>A few hours later, Lander walked out of the federal courthouse where he was being detained with Hochul at his side.<\/p>\n<p>Democrats and their allies in the media have been hyping recent run-ins between liberal activist politicians and law enforcement in an apparent effort to portray themselves as victims of a purported \u201coppressive\u201d and \u201cauthoritarian\u201d government under President Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Lander\u2019s arrest comes a week after Rep. LaMonica McIver (D-N.J.) was<a href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2025\/06\/11\/nj-rep-lamonica-mciver-hit-with-federal-charges-over-clash-at-ice-detention-facility-faces-17-years-in-prison\/\">\u00a0hit with federal charges<\/a>\u00a0for\u00a0allegedly\u00a0interfering with federal officers during\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/amgreatness.com\/2025\/05\/14\/dem-lawmaker-facing-calls-for-expulsion-and-arrest-after-allegedly-assaulting-ice-agents-outside-detention-center-in-nj\/\">a scuffle outside an immigration detention facility<\/a>\u00a0in Newark, New Jersey, last month. Charges were dropped against Newark Mayor Ras Baraka for federal trespassing at the facility.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>And last Thursday, Secret Service had to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/strickdc\/status\/1933234426970026278\">forcibly remove<\/a>\u00a0Democrat Senator Alex Padilla of California from Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem\u2019s press conference in Los Angeles when he lunged toward the podium shouting questions.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Padilla tearfully recounted how he was thrown out of Noem\u2019s press conference in an \u201cemotional\u201d speech on the Senate floor on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat will a city already ON EDGE from being militarized THNK when they see their United States senator being HANDCUFFED just for trying to ask a question!\u201d he wailed.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Padilla\u2019s emotional outburst garnered widespread ridicule from conservative on social media.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cReal men don\u2019t physically charge at women and then cry about it. Gaslighting 101,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> quipped Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.)<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/RepLuna\/status\/1935161558977445929\">\u00a0on X.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Authorities on Tuesday defended Lander\u2019s arrest, pointing out that in recent months, they have seen a substantial increase in assaults against ICE officers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur heroic ICE law enforcement officers face a 413 percent increase in assaults against them\u2014it is wrong that politicians seeking higher office undermine law enforcement safety to get a viral moment,\u201d a DHS spokesperson said. \u201cNo one is above the law, and if you lay a hand on a law enforcement officer, you will face consequences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe safety and security of official proceedings, government officials, law enforcement officers, and all members of the public who participate in them is a core focus of our Office,\u201d said Nick Biase, chief of public affairs for the U.S. Attorney\u2019s Office. \u201cThe Department of Justice will prosecute violations of federal law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Governor Hochul, however, said during her presser that the arrest of Lander constituted \u201ca sorry day for New York and our country.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe video is shocking, she said.\u00a0 \u201cI knew I needed to come down here immediately and check on his whereabouts, and do what I could to intervene.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rep.
