ISIS-Inspired Drone War Plans Leaked From US National Security Council<\/span><\/p>\n

According to leaked documents, British and American academics advised the U.S. National Security Council to encourage Ukraine to adopt\u00a0ISIS<\/a>-style drone tactics against Russian railways.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In a report\u00a0published<\/a>\u00a0by investigative journalist Kit Klarenberg for The Grayzone on Monday, Project Alchemy, a secret academic-intelligence cell whose mission was \u201cto keep Ukraine fighting\u201d by imposing \u201cstrategic dilemmas, costs and frictions upon Russia\u201d <\/strong>was revealed as the network allegedly behind these plans.<\/p>\n

The academic recommendations were delivered to Colonel\u00a0Tim Wright<\/a>, who served as the Biden administration\u2019s Director for\u00a0Russia<\/a>\u00a0at the National Security Council from August 2021 to July 2022. The proposals came from three key drone experts within a broader Ukraine Working Group composed of \u201capproximately 60 experts hailing from states throughout NATO\u201d who sought to \u201cassist Ukraine\u2019s defense (short of deploying combat forces).\u201d<\/p>\n

Zachary Kallenborn from George Mason University\u2019s Schar School advocated for \u201ctwo-stage attacks like ISIS did frequently\u201d on Russian railways, recommending\u00a0Ukraine<\/a>\u00a0\u201cbreak the track, and wait for the engineers to come to fix it, then use the drone to kill them.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n

An unnamed Durham University researcher identified as \u201cM.E.D.\u201d cited Islamic State\u2019s \u201cinnovative\u201d use of drones as documented in a July 2018 West Point paper, suggesting commercial drones could be \u201cmodified via a simple drop mechanism\u2026 to serve as effective munitions delivery platforms.\u201d<\/p>\n

Dominika Kunertova, formerly of ETH Zurich\u2019s Center for Security Studies and currently directing drone warfare research at the Atlantic Council, recommended targeting \u201canything that uses\u201d railroads as opposed to the infrastructure itself.<\/p>\n

These academic blueprints proved prophetic when Ukraine launched Operation Spider Web late last month conducting bold drone attacks inside Russia that killed seven people and injured more than 30, including two children.<\/p>\n

The timing proved particularly significant as these attacks took place \u201con the eve of scheduled negotiations between Russia and Ukraine.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ukrainian forces subsequently destroyed a Russian fuel train late last month using a DJI Mavic III drone, one of the specific models Kallenborn had recommended for modification.<\/p>\n

The attacks continued through this month with Operation Spiderweb 2.0, demonstrating how the \u201cBritish-born strategy has heavily influenced the thinking of Kiev\u2019s increasingly desperate military.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
