Pulitzer Winning Washington Post Journalist Busted For Child Porn<\/span><\/p>\n

A Pulitzer-Prize winning Washington Post journalist was\u00a0arrested and charged with possession of child porn,\u00a0<\/strong>DC US Attorney Jeanine Pirro announced Friday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Thomas Pham LeGro, 48, was arrested on Thursday after FBI agents discovered\u00a011 videos of child sexual abuse material on his\u00a0work laptop<\/em>\u00a0during a raid,<\/strong> Pirro’s office says, adding that they also found\u00a0fractured pieces of a hard drive in his hallway,\u00a0<\/strong>and seized several electronic devices.<\/p>\n

After examining LeGro’s work laptop,\u00a0the FBI says it found a “folder that contained 11 videos depicting child sexual abuse material.”<\/strong><\/p>\n

LeGro, a veteran journalist who worked at WaPo for\u00a018 years<\/strong>, made his first appearance in District Court of Washington DC on Friday, and\u00a0has a detention hearing scheduled for next Wednesday<\/strong>, the\u00a0NY Post<\/em><\/a>\u00a0reports. He faces a maximum of\u00a020 years in prison\u00a0<\/strong>if convicted.<\/p>\n

A heavily redacted FBI affidavit against LeGro claims the reporter was linked to multiple E-Gold accounts in 2005 and 2006.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

E-Gold was a digital payment service that ceased operations after the feds accused the company in 2007 of laundering money for child pornographers.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n

The affidavit notes that the FBI received court approval to monitor LeGro\u2019s internet account in May. -NY Post<\/em><\/p>\n

LeGro worked for the\u00a0Post<\/em>‘s sports department between 2000-2006, left to work as a reporter and producer for “PBS NewsHour”, and then returned to WaPo in 2013. At WaPo, he was part of a team of reporters who won a Pulitzer Prize in 2017 for coverage of former Alabama Republican Senate candidate Roy Moore –\u00a0who was the victim of a disinformation campaign<\/a> funded by LinkedIn founder Reid Hoffman.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The\u00a0Post<\/em>\u00a0was threatened by Moore with a lawsuit after the outlet claimed that he romantically pursued a 14-year-old girl when he was in his 30s – an allegation he vehemently denied.\u00a0<\/p>\n

According to the\u00a0NY Post<\/em>, LeGro has been placed on leave.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
