The trend, which is gaining momentum under the &#8220;Make America Healthy Again&#8221; movement\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/food\/maha-working-goldman-finds-better-you-consumption-shift-underway\">and even noted by Goldman<\/a>\u2014reflects a broader push for food independence and a return to community-based sourcing.<\/p>\n<p>Not everyone is on board with MAHA \u2014 especially not the feminist journalists at SELF (owned by the corporate media company Cond\u00e9 Nast), who recently penned an article that reads like a hit piece against MAHA.<\/p>\n<p>Erica Sloan&#8217;s critique of MAHA is that\u00a0food independence is\u00a0unrealistic and burdensome for women in the modern progressive world.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2025-06-29_15-11-45.png?itok=VzKHKkAj\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In her article titled <em>&#8220;How the MAHA Food Agenda Threatens to Set Women Back Decades,&#8221; <\/em>Sloan writes&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><em>But it&#8217;s what MAHA isn&#8217;t saying that&#8217;s most important: Stoking so much fear around these vital industries <\/em><strong><em>implies that Americans\u2014more specifically, the mothers of America\u2014need to find a different way to feed their families<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Women do a disproportionate share of the kind of work that the <\/em><strong><em>MAHA movement is asking people to do, which is to grow their own food, to prepare all of their food from scratch, and to avoid processed food and even packaged foods<\/em><\/strong><em>,&#8221; Norah MacKendrick, PhD, associate professor of sociology at Rutgers University and author of Better Safe Than Sorry: How Consumers Navigate Exposure to Everyday Toxics, tells SELF. Even today, with approximately 60% of women working outside the home, <\/em><strong><em>women still spend about two hours more on housework daily and cook more than twice as many meals a week as men do. The implication that our current food system is inherently unsafe just stands to pile on the labor<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;In order for a <\/em><strong><em>family to eat a diet of mostly homegrown or even just homemade meals\u2026 that&#8217;s going to be a lot more work for women and mothers especially,&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><em> Dr. MacKendrick says. It&#8217;s an ideal that the MAHA moms have already embodied\u2014and that would be not only <\/em><strong><em>unrealistic but unfair to expect from all American families<\/em><\/strong><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Decades?\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Gt0LTldXcAAopZ3_1.jpg?itok=kXg6EkrI\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The angle that\u00a0Sloan uses to bash MAHA via a quote from some woman in acemedia is entirely flawed, that&#8217;s because MAHA doesn&#8217;t force anyone to\u00a0grow their own food or make everything from scratch\u2014it simply raises awareness about the systemic failures of Big Food and Big Pharma and empowers families to reclaim control where possible. Some folks plant gardens, while others <a href=\"https:\/\/store.zerohedge.com\/?utm_source=banner&amp;utm_medium=banner&amp;utm_campaign=store_promo&amp;utm_content=sidebar\">buy from local ranchers and farmers.<\/a>\u00a0The movement calls for informed choices and better\u00a0public policy\u2014not a return to the primitive 1800s\u2014or is asking women to live like the modern-day Amish.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>My wife\u2019s sous vide with reverse sear tenderloin.
