{"id":1545087,"date":"2025-07-03T09:45:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T13:45:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1545087"},"modified":"2025-07-03T09:45:00","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T13:45:00","slug":"these-are-the-us-cities-with-the-most-and-least-health-insurance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/these-are-the-us-cities-with-the-most-and-least-health-insurance\/1545087\/","title":{"rendered":"These Are The US Cities With The Most And Least Health Insurance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">These Are The US Cities With The Most And Least Health Insurance<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>In 2023, <strong>92% or 305 million Americans had health insurance, either for some or all of the year.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Health insurance coverage varies widely across the country, shaped by differences in state policies, economic conditions, and local job markets.<\/p>\n<p>This map, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualcapitalist.com\/ranked-u-s-cities-with-the-most-and-least-health-insurance\/\">via Visual Capitalist&#8217;s Kayla Zhu,<\/a> shows the top and bottom U.S. metropolitan areas by share of residents with health insurance, based on data from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/data.census.gov\/table\/ACSDP1Y2023.DP03?q=DP03&amp;t=Employment&amp;g=010XX00US%2431000M1&amp;y=2023\">U.S. Census Bureau<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Data is for 2023 and shows the share of civilian noninstitutionalized population with health coverage, public or private.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/Insured_Cities_web.jpg?itok=cQQqJnGC\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Cities With the Highest Rates of Health Insurance Coverage<\/h2>\n<p>In this table, we show the top U.S. metro areas by share of residents with health insurance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2025-07-01_12-36-28.jpg?itok=KgITidjy\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Amherst, Massachusetts was the most insured metro area in the U.S. in 2023, with 98.4% of its residents covered under some sort of health insurance.<\/p>\n<p>The cities with the highest rates of health insurance coverage are mostly concentrated in Massachusetts\u2014one of the top states by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualcapitalist.com\/mapped-median-income-by-state-in-2024\/\">median income<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.visualcapitalist.com\/mapped-average-salary-by-state-in-2025\/\">average hourly wage<\/a>\u2014and the Midwest.<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts is also one of the most\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/worldpopulationreview.com\/state-rankings\/most-educated-states\">highly educated<\/a>\u00a0states, which has shown to have a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.waldenu.edu\/online-masters-programs\/master-of-healthcare-administration\/resource\/the-link-between-healthcare-coverage-and-educational-attainment\">correlation<\/a>\u00a0with health insurance coverage.<\/p>\n<h2>Cities With the Lowest Rates of Health Insurance Coverage<\/h2>\n<p>Below we show the bottom U.S. metro areas by share of residents with health insurance.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/2025-07-01_12-36-57.jpg?itok=6zzT651n\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Laredo, a border city in Southern Texas was the metro area with the lowest share of residents with health insurance at 70.7%.<\/p>\n<p>Texas dominates the bottom of the ranking, with 7 of the 10 lowest-coverage metro areas.
