We must renew a focus on firm generation and continue to reverse radical green ideology in order to address this risk.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Firm power generation refers to power that can be generated at all times and includes coal, natural gas, and nuclear. This is in contrast to intermittent power sources such as wind and solar, which are dependent on factors like weather.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20-%202025-07-08T084353.479.jpg?itok=8OJ6GwBY\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>The warning is part of the DOE\u2019s Evaluating U.S. Grid Reliability and Security <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/2025-07\/DOE%20Final%20EO%20Report%20%28FINAL%20JULY%207%29_0.pdf\">report<\/a>, which criticized the \u201cradical green agenda of past administrations\u201d for existing generation retirements and delays in adding new firm power generation capacities, according to the statement.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This will lead to a \u201cgrowing mismatch\u201d between electricity demand and supply, driven especially by demand from AI-driven data center growth, the DOE said in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>If the current schedule of planned retirements and incremental power additions remain unchanged, the country\u2019s electric grid will be \u201cunable to meet expected demand for AI, data centers, manufacturing and industrialization while keeping the cost of living low for all Americans,\u201d the agency added in the statement.<\/p>\n<p>Continuing on the present course will undermine America\u2019s economic growth, leadership in new technologies, and national security, the DOE said.<\/p>\n<p><strong>While the 104 GW in retirements are set to be replaced by 209 GW of new power generation by 2030, only 22 GW of these replacements are set to be firm generation, according to the department.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe United States cannot afford to continue down the unstable and dangerous path of energy subtraction previous leaders pursued, forcing the closure of baseload power sources like coal and natural gas,\u201d Secretary of Energy Chris Wright said in the statement.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cIn the coming years, America\u2019s reindustrialization and the AI race will require a significantly larger supply of around-the-clock, reliable, and uninterrupted power. President Trump\u2019s administration is committed to advancing a strategy of energy addition, and supporting all forms of energy that are affordable, reliable, and secure.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>The DOE report is in response to President Donald Trump\u2019s April 8 executive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/04\/strengthening-the-reliability-and-security-of-the-united-states-electric-grid\/\">order<\/a> calling for strengthening the reliability and security of America\u2019s power grid.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To ensure reliable electric generation in the country and meet the growing demand for electricity, America\u2019s power grid \u201cmust utilize all available power generation resources, particularly those secure, redundant fuel supplies that are capable of extended operations,\u201d the order states.<\/p>\n<p>The DOE issued its warning following a May <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/us-power-grid-may-become-unreliable-this-summer-watchdog-warns-5651896\">report<\/a> from the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC), which cautioned that parts of the United States could struggle to meet electricity demand this summer.<\/p>\n<p>The NERC report cited intermittent energy sources, such as solar and wind, as posing a potential risk to the reliability of the power supply.<\/p>\n<h2>Protecting US Energy Security<\/h2>\n<p><strong>The DOE report on grid reliability came out on the same day that Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-signs-executive-order-targeting-solar-wind-energy-tax-credits-5884170\">signed an executive order<\/a> directing his administration to end \u201cmarket distorting subsidies for unreliable, foreign controlled energy sources.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The order directs the secretary of the Treasury to terminate clean electricity production and investment tax credits granted to solar and wind facilities, the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/fact-sheets\/2025\/07\/fact-sheet-president-donald-j-trump-ends-market-distorting-subsidies-for-unreliable-foreign-controlled-energy-sources\/\">said<\/a> in a July 7 fact sheet.<\/p>\n<p>It also directs the secretary of the interior to revise rules to eliminate preferential treatment given to these facilities compared to dispatchable, firm power generation sources.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cUnreliable wind and solar energy sources displace affordable, dispatchable energy, compromise America\u2019s electric grid, and denigrate the beauty of our Nation\u2019s natural landscape,\u201d the fact sheet stated.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201cReliance on so-called \u2018green\u2019 subsidies threatens national security by making the United States dependent on supply chains controlled by foreign adversaries.\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Some renewable energy policies are already on the chopping block after Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/trump-signs-landmark-big-beautiful-bill-into-law-during-july-4-celebration-5882860\">signed<\/a> the One Big Beautiful Bill into law on July 4.<\/p>\n<p>The bill terminates multiple clean energy tax credits established under the Inflation Reduction Act signed by former President Joe Biden, with some cuts taking effect as early as this year.<\/p>\n<p>The electric vehicle tax credit is now scheduled to end by the end of September.
