{"id":1546677,"date":"2025-07-12T15:40:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-12T19:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1546677"},"modified":"2025-07-12T15:40:00","modified_gmt":"2025-07-12T19:40:00","slug":"dubais-emirates-airline-to-enable-crypto-payments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/dubais-emirates-airline-to-enable-crypto-payments\/1546677\/","title":{"rendered":"Dubai&#8217;s Emirates Airline To Enable Crypto Payments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Dubai&#8217;s Emirates Airline To Enable Crypto Payments<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><em>By Amin Haqshanas of <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/emirates-crypto-com-crypto-payments\">Cointelegraph<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Dubai&#8217;s international airline Emirates signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Crypto.com to integrate Crypto.com Pay into the airline\u2019s payment infrastructure, with implementation expected next year.<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/emirates%20dubai.jpg?itok=PZjNSwkJ\"><\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The signing ceremony took place in the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, chairman and chief executive of Emirates Airline &amp; Group, the airline <a href=\"https:\/\/www.emirates.com\/media-centre\/emirates-signs-mou-with-cryptocom-for-future-integration-of-cryptocom-pay-as-a-payment-option-for-customers\/\">announced<\/a> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The MoU was signed by Adnan Kazim, Emirates\u2019 deputy president and chief commercial officer, and Mohammed Al Hakim, president of Crypto.com\u2019s UAE operations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis strategic move is in line with Dubai\u2019s vision to be at the forefront of financial innovation while at the same time providing our customers with greater flexibility and choice in how they transact with Emirates,\u201d Kazim said.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Beyond payment integration, the two companies will collaborate on promotional campaigns to raise awareness and drive user adoption once the service goes live.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/emirates%20vs%20doersam.jpg?itok=rXEBgff2\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Crypto.com Pay integration set for Q4 2025<\/h3>\n<p>A Crypto.com spokesperson confirmed to Cointelegraph that the integration is set for the last quarter of the year. \u201cThe initial phase will focus on technical readiness, compliance alignment, and customer experience mapping,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, Emirates and Crypto.com will determine whether the rollout will begin on select routes, regional markets, or through a global launch, with pilot phases likely to precede wider implementation.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson also confirmed that crypto payments from customers will be converted instantly to fiat (AED) using real-time exchange rates at the point of transaction. \u201cEmirates will not hold any cryptocurrency on its books; settlements will occur in AED, ensuring compliance and minimal FX exposure,\u201d they said.<\/p>\n<p>Crypto.com also said it continues to explore regional and international airline integrations as part of a broader travel and commerce strategy. \u201cThe goal is to build a universal crypto travel layer bringing seamless, secure, and compliant payment experiences to travelers across air, retail and hospitality sectors.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Dubai eyes leadership in crypto<\/h3>\n<p>The integration comes amid Dubai\u2019s push to lead in crypto, as the city seeks to establish itself as a primary hub for blockchain and digital asset projects.<\/p>\n<p>Backed by regulatory clarity and a pro-innovation environment, several industries in the emirate, from real estate to telecommunications, have already opened their doors to cryptocurrency payments.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, Tether <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/tether-usdt-uae-real-estate-reelly-tech-expansion\">partnered with UAE-based Reelly Tech<\/a> to expand the use of its USDt\u00a0stablecoin in real estate transactions. The deal allows buyers to use USDt to purchase property through 30,000 Reelly Tech agents globally.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, the Dubai Financial Services Authority (DFSA), the financial regulator in charge of the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/dubai-land-department-real-estate-tokenization-ripple\">approved Ripple\u2019s RLUSD stablecoin<\/a>.\u00a0DIFC companies can now use the RLUSD stablecoin for various virtual asset services.<\/p>\n<p>The Dubai Multi Commodities Centre free zone\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/cointelegraph-establishes-middle-east-headquarters-at-the-dmcc-crypto-centre\">has attracted over 600 crypto companies<\/a>, with more firms flocking to the Dubai International Financial Centre and One Central district as the country positions itself as a leader in digital finance.<\/p>\n<h3>Dubai eyes leadership in crypto<\/h3>\n<p>Dubai\u2019s real estate market <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/dubai-real-estate-sales-tokenization-boom-may-2025\">reached new highs in May<\/a>, with sales totaling 66.8 billion dirhams (around $18.2 billion) across 18,700 transactions, a 44% increase in value year-on-year. The surge came amid an accelerating push into real estate tokenization.<\/p>\n<p>In May alone, multiple initiatives, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/multibank-mag-mavryk-3b-rwa-tokenization-launch\">$3 billion RWA deal<\/a> involving MultiBank Group, real estate giant MAG and blockchain infrastructure provider Mavryk, were launched by government and industry players.<\/p>\n<p>On May 19, the Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority, Dubai\u2019s crypto regulator,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cointelegraph.com\/news\/dubai-crypto-regulator-updates-rulebooks-tightens-margin-trading\">updated its guidelines<\/a> to include provisions for real-world asset (RWA) tokenization.
