{"id":1548609,"date":"2025-07-23T18:05:00","date_gmt":"2025-07-23T22:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1548609"},"modified":"2025-07-23T18:05:00","modified_gmt":"2025-07-23T22:05:00","slug":"us-olympics-committee-bans-men-from-womens-sports-says-its-aligning-with-presidential-order","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/us-olympics-committee-bans-men-from-womens-sports-says-its-aligning-with-presidential-order\/1548609\/","title":{"rendered":"US Olympics Committee Bans Men From Women&#8217;s Sports, Says It&#8217;s Aligning With Presidential Order"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">US Olympics Committee Bans Men From Women&#8217;s Sports, Says It&#8217;s Aligning With Presidential Order<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/us\/us-olympics-committee-says-its-aligning-with-presidential-order-keeping-men-out-of-womens-sports-5891292?utm_source=partner&amp;utm_campaign=ZeroHedge\"><em>Authored by Melanie Sun via The Epoch Times,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) issued a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usopc.org\/diversity-equity-inclusion\/transgender-athlete-participation-in-sport\">policy update<\/a> on July 21 regarding transgender athlete participation in sports, which indicates that U.S. women\u2019s teams at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will be conducted in line with President Donald Trump\u2019s executive order, \u201cKeeping Men Out of Women\u2019s Sports.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>\u201cThe USOPC is committed to protecting opportunities for athletes participating in sport,\u201d <\/strong><\/em>the organising committee <a href=\"https:\/\/assets.contentstack.io\/v3\/assets\/blt9e58afd92a18a0fc\/bltf456568858cc9c12\/USOPC_Athlete_Safety_Policy.pdf\">said<\/a> in a linked athlete safety policy document.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside the International Olympic Committee, International Paralympic Committee, and the 50 U.S. national governing bodies, the USOPC said <strong>it will \u201censure that women have a fair and safe competition environment consistent with Executive Order 14201.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/image%20-%202025-07-23T085145.005.jpg?itok=e3JJMthP\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Executive Order 14201 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2025\/02\/11\/2025-02513\/keeping-men-out-of-womens-sports\">outlined<\/a> that the federal government would \u201crescind all funds\u201d from programs that \u201cdeprive women and girls of fair athletic opportunities\u201d\u2014a popular policy position among female athletes who say they have been subjected to unfair competition with biological males under liberal sex differentiation policies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The order also referenced federal policy \u201cto recognize two sexes, male and female.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese sexes are not changeable and are grounded in fundamental and incontrovertible reality. \u2026 \u2018Sex\u2019 shall refer to an individual\u2019s immutable biological classification as either male or female. \u2018Sex\u2019 is not a synonym for and does not include the concept of \u2018gender identity,\u2019\u201d the White House <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/presidential-actions\/2025\/01\/defending-women-from-gender-ideology-extremism-and-restoring-biological-truth-to-the-federal-government\/\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Compliance with the order would mean that U.S. athletes identifying as transgender women will effectively be barred from competing in women\u2019s events at the 2028 Olympics, but can compete in the equivalent male events.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The policy update was also sent as a letter to national sport governing bodies, who, as recognized under the Ted Stevens Olympic &amp; Amateur Sports Act and operating under the USOPC, are responsible for setting and enforcing the rules for their respective sports in the United States, ranging from elite and Olympic-level competition to supporting grassroots development.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Olympic officials told the national governing bodies that they would need to implement the athlete safety policy, adding that \u201cthe USOPC has engaged in a series of respectful and constructive conversations with federal officials\u201d since Trump signed the order.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a federally chartered organization, we have an obligation to comply with federal expectations,\u201d USOPC CEO Sarah Hirshland and President Gene Sykes wrote in a letter. \u201cOur revised policy emphasizes the importance of ensuring fair and safe competition environments for women. All National Governing Bodies are required to update their applicable policies in alignment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>The USOPC policy update means that local sports clubs will also need to bring their rules into line with Trump\u2019s executive order.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>World Athletics is considering changes to its policies that would mostly fall in line with Trump\u2019s order. A USA Swimming spokesman said the federation had been made aware of the USOPC\u2019s change and was consulting with the committee to figure out what changes it needs to make.<\/p>\n<p>USA Fencing has changed its policy, which will be effective Aug. 1, to allow only \u201cathletes who are of the female sex\u201d in women\u2019s competition and opening men\u2019s events to \u201call athletes not eligible for the women\u2019s category, including transgender women, transgender men, non-binary and intersex athletes and cisgender male athletes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, some national sport governing bodies, like USA Track and Field, which have been following guidelines set by their world federation, may come under pressure to align with U.S. federal policy.<\/p>\n<p>The Epoch Times has contacted the USOPC for comment.<\/p>\n<h2>Refining Sex Rules for Sports<\/h2>\n<p>The rules for eligibility to compete in women\u2019s races have been an important issue facing the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Its new president, Kirsty Coventry, has signaled an effort to \u201cprotect the female category.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>To date, the IOC has allowed individual sports federations to set their own rules at the Olympics, and some have already taken steps on the topic.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Stricter rules on transgender-identifying athletes\u2014barring from women\u2019s events anyone who went through male puberty\u2014have been passed by swimming, cycling, and track and field. Soccer is reviewing its eligibility rules for women and could set limits on levels of testosterone.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has said he wants the IOC to change everything \u201chaving to do with this absolutely ridiculous subject.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Los Angeles will host the Summer Games in 2028, in Trump\u2019s last few months as U.S. president.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The USOPC\u2019s policy update follows similar steps taken by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) earlier this year. It changed its participation policy for student transgender-identifying athletes in around 1,100 U.S. schools, limiting competition in women\u2019s sports to athletes born as the female sex, irrespective of gender identity.
