{"id":1551481,"date":"2025-08-07T17:25:00","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T21:25:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/?p=1551481"},"modified":"2025-08-07T17:25:00","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T21:25:00","slug":"what-triggered-the-upcoming-putin-trump-summit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bugaluu.com\/news\/what-triggered-the-upcoming-putin-trump-summit\/1551481\/","title":{"rendered":"What Triggered The Upcoming Putin-Trump Summit?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">What Triggered The Upcoming Putin-Trump Summit?<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/whats-responsible-for-the-upcoming\"><em>Authored by Andrew Korybko via Substack,<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>One of them must have offered more concessions to the other&#8230;<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/s3\/files\/inline-images\/httpssubstack-post-media.s3.amaz%20-%202025-08-07T090008.235.jpg?itok=brsKYhW6\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.rt.com\/russia\/622601-putin-trump-meeting-agreed-moscow\/\">confirmed<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday that Putin and Trump could meet as soon as next week following Special Envoy Steve Witkoff\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TrumpDailyPosts\/status\/1953142531811889299\">highly productive<\/a>\u201d three-hour-long meeting with his boss.<\/p>\n<p>A venue has already been agreed upon too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This comes a day before the expiry of Trump\u2019s shortened deadline to Putin.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s still unclear whether Trump will impose more sanctions on Russia and up to 100% tariffs on its trading partners, however, but he just\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/business-news\/trump-hikes-india-tariffs-50-percent-buying-russian-oil-rcna223374\">doubled India\u2019s tariffs<\/a>\u00a0to 50% on the same day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>In any case, the question on everyone\u2019s mind is what\u2019s responsible for the upcoming Putin-Trump summit, namely which of them offered the most concessions to the other and why.<\/strong> Coming right before the expiry of Trump\u2019s deadline to Putin, some observers believe that the latter is therefore capitulating, but it\u2019s also possible that the \u201cTACO\u201d (\u201cTrump Always Chickens Out\u201d) theory will be proven. There are several arguments for and against each of these two schools of thought.<\/p>\n<p>This analysis\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thealtworld.com\/andrew_korybko\/will-putin-agree-to-a-ceasefire\">here<\/a>\u00a0from early March enumerated the five reasons <strong>why Putin might agree to a ceasefire<\/strong> and the five reasons why he might not.<\/p>\n<p>As for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/why-might-russia-repair-its-ties\">why he might<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>Russia wants to avert disproportionate dependence on China;<\/p>\n<p>it also wants to beat China to the chase with the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/korybko-to-newsweek-a-russian-us\">New D\u00e9tente<\/a>\u201d;<\/p>\n<p>the \u201cNew D\u00e9tente\u201d could geopolitically revolutionize the world;<\/p>\n<p>additional (and even secret) terms might be attached to the ceasefire;<\/p>\n<p>and Putin might really believe that Trump is serious about further escalating.<\/p>\n<p>At the same time, <strong>he might still hold firm in his opposition to a ceasefire\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/whats-really-behind-putins-generous\">unless his terms<\/a>\u00a0from June 2024 are first met<\/strong> because:<\/p>\n<p>Russia wants to liberate all occupied territories;<\/p>\n<p>the front lines might soon collapse to Russia\u2019s benefit;<\/p>\n<p>Russia wants to scare away Western peacekeepers from deploying to Ukraine;<\/p>\n<p>some of the Russian public don\u2019t want a ceasefire;<\/p>\n<p>and Putin might really believe that Trump is bluffing about further escalating per the \u201cTACO\u201d theory.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This segues into the reasons why Trump might offer the most concessions to Putin.<\/strong> Briefly, this could be because he:<\/p>\n<p>soberly assessed the resultant escalation risk and wisely decided against it;<\/p>\n<p>accordingly shook off the pernicious influence of the warmongers around him\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/heres-how-lindsey-graham-manipulated\">like Lindsey Graham<\/a>;<\/p>\n<p>is finally willing to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thealtworld.com\/andrew_korybko\/five-benefits-that-the-us-would-reap-from-coercing-ukraine-into-more-concessions-to-russia\">coerce Zelensky<\/a>\u00a0into Putin\u2019s demanded concessions for peace;<\/p>\n<p>expects that he\u2019ll succeed and neither his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/von-der-leyen-just-subordinated-the\">new EU vassals<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/svr-once-again-warned-about-a-british\">nor the UK<\/a>\u00a0will sabotage this;<\/p>\n<p>and hopes to win the Nobel Peace Prize as a result.<\/p>\n<p><strong>On the other hand, he might still hold firm in his opposition to coercing Zelensky into Putin\u2019s demanded concessions for peace<\/strong> because he:<\/p>\n<p>believes that any further escalation would be manageable;<\/p>\n<p>is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thealtworld.com\/andrew_korybko\/heres-how-trump-was-manipulated-into-mission-creep\">still under the influence<\/a>\u00a0of warmongers like Lindsey Graham;<\/p>\n<p>believes that he can coerce concessions from Putin;<\/p>\n<p>expects that his new EU vassals and the UK will contribute to his potential escalation plans;<\/p>\n<p>and hopes that he\u2019ll win the Nobel Peace Prize if he gets Putin to agree to a totally lopsided deal.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone will soon discover\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thealtworld.com\/andrew_korybko\/trumps-shortened-deadline-for-putin-will-soon-reveal-which-of-them-miscalculated\">whether it was Putin or Trump who miscalculated<\/a>\u00a0by not ending the conflict earlier, but they shouldn\u2019t forget that while \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/korybko.substack.com\/p\/china-might-not-want-russia-to-lose\">China Might Not Want Russia To Lose, It Might Not Want Russia To Win Either<\/a>\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>As such, China might try to beat Russia to the chase in clinching a \u201cNew D\u00e9tente\u201d with the US, which could decelerate or even offset Trump\u2019s \u201cPivot (back) to (East) Asia\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><strong>All that\u2019s known for sure is that the coming week will reveal a lot about the factors that drive those three\u2019s policies.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>      <span class=\"field field--name-uid field--type-entity-reference field--label-hidden\"><a title=\"View user profile.\" href=\"https:\/\/cms.zerohedge.com\/users\/tyler-durden\" class=\"username\">Tyler Durden<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden\">Thu, 08\/07\/2025 &#8211; 13:25<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u200b<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/what-triggered-upcoming-putin-trump-summit\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">https:\/\/www.zerohedge.com\/geopolitical\/what-triggered-upcoming-putin-trump-summit<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What Triggered The Upcoming Putin-Trump Summit?
