A newly declassified memorandum confirms that the FBI\u2019s anti-Trump Arctic Frost probe\u00a0was requested by FBI Director\u00a0Chris Wray<\/a>\u00a0and personally approved in 2022 by Attorney General\u00a0Merrick Garland<\/a>, the two top officials in the Biden DOJ.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/a><\/p>\n

The\u00a0memorandum\u2014written by Wray and addressed to Garland on April 4, 2022\u2014explicitly requested authorization to launch the probe.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cYour approval is requested as soon as possible,\u201d<\/strong><\/em> Wray wrote in the memo for the\u00a0\u201cApproval to Open a Certain Sensitive Investigative Matter Investigation.\u201d<\/p>\n

In its summary, Wray said the probe would center around President Donald Trump\u2019s challenge to the certification of the 2020 election and the alleged submission of\u00a0alternate electors\u00a0to the federal government.<\/p>\n

\u201cOpen source\u00a0reporting and public statements made by individuals closely associated with Donald J. Trump, Inc. (Trump Campaign) present an articulate factual basis indicating the existence of a federal crime, and thus the\u00a0FBI<\/a>\u00a0seeks to open a full investigation<\/strong>,\u201d<\/em> Wray proclaimed.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Wray noted Garland\u2019s personal approval was needed due to the sensitive nature of the probe.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The file also shows Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco left a\u00a0hand-written note to Garland reading, \u201cMerrick \u2013 I recommend you approve. LM 4\/5\/22.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

Signatures on the memo confirm Garland approved the probe that same day.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The controversial memo was released by the Trump administration after Senate Judiciary Committee\u00a0Chairman\u00a0Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, requested its declassification.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In an\u00a0X post, Grassley decried that the memorandum\u00a0ultimately unleashed\u00a0\u201cunchecked\u201d government power at the highest levels.<\/p>\n

Declassified documents confirm that the FBI\u00a0probe\u00a0expanded to include extensive surveillance of multiple conservative organizations, including Turning Point USA, the Conservative Partnership\u00a0Institute\u00a0and several pro-Trump super PACs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The probe also targeted the phone records of at least eight lawmakers, seven Republicans and one\u00a0congressman.\u00a0<\/p>\n

This probe also paved the way for Garland\u2019s appointment of Special Counsel Jack Smith,\u00a0who\u00a0went on to criminally indict Trump twice, the first time in U.S. history a former president faced such charges.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
