The arrangement\u00a0came to light\u00a0after Willis referenced the grant in\u00a0December 2022 correspondence<\/a>\u00a0with DOJ Senior Advisor Scott\u00a0Pestridge\u00a0of the Office of Justice Programs.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The document was first revealed on\u00a0Thursday by Just the News<\/a>\u00a0through open records requests filed by the outlet and nonprofit America First Legal.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Just the News, Willis referenced the Office of Justice Programs\u2019 Community-Based Violence Intervention and Prevention Initiative grant, which\u00a0ultimately awarded\u00a0her office $2 million.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The timing of the award coincided with her office\u2019s aggressive prosecution of Trump, who at the time was running for president against then-President\u00a0Joe Biden<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to document your recognition of our progress and services provided with dynamic partners, as we complete sole source steps for our new grant award, a grant in which you invited us to apply,\u201d <\/em>Willis wrote to\u00a0Pestridge, according to Just the News.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Willis described the award as a \u201csole source\u201d grant,\u00a0indicating\u00a0her office faced no competing applicants.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

The $2 million award was part of\u00a0roughly $18 million\u00a0the Biden DOJ provided to Willis\u2019s office between 2021 and 2024.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

She claimed the funds would help \u201cat-risk\u201d youth avoid falling into crime or\u00a0assist\u00a0with reintegration into society, according to Just the News.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Documents released by Willis\u2019s office in response to open records requests show her office\u00a0maintained\u00a0consistent coordination with the DOJ after Trump left office in 2021, when she became one of several left-leaning prosecutors pursuing cases against him.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

She later charged Trump under Georgia\u2019s RICO statute, accusing him of\u00a0attempting\u00a0to subvert the 2020 election results in the state.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Her case\u00a0ultimately unraveled\u00a0after it was revealed that she had engaged in an affair with Nathan Wade, the special prosecutor she selected to lead the prosecution.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Willis took vacations with Wade while her office paid him, later claiming she reimbursed him in cash, though she never produced receipts to substantiate those payments.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both Wade and Willis were\u00a0ultimately disqualified\u00a0from leading the case. After Trump returned to office in 2025, the prosecution was effectively nullified.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
