Even though you can get by pretty well speaking only English, learning a second, or third, language is always going to be worth it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>While learning foreign languages is ubiquitous in Europe, where most students start learning English as early as primary school, the story in the U.S. is completely different. <\/strong>Most European countries have a national-level mandate for studying languages at school but such standards are non-existent on the other side of the Atlantic where such legislation only exists at school district or state-level, if at all.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/15078\/the-share-of-primary-and-secondary-students-learning-a-foreign-language\/\"><em>As Statista&#8217;a Felix Richter reports, <\/em><\/a>according to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.americancouncils.org\/language-research-fle-state-language-us\/\">National K-12 Foreign Language Enrollment Survey<\/a>\u00a0conducted by the Americans Councils for International Education, <strong>less than 20 percent of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/study\/166787\/k-12-education-in-the-united-states\/\">K-12 students<\/a>\u00a0in the U.S. were enrolled in foreign language classes<\/strong> in 2014\/15, the latest available data.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chart\/15078\/the-share-of-primary-and-secondary-students-learning-a-foreign-language\/\" title=\"Infographic: The Transatlantic Divide in Language Learning | Statista\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><em>You will find more infographics at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statista.com\/chartoftheday\/\">Statista<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>This is a far cry from the enrollment rates seen across Europe,<\/strong> as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/statistics-explained\/index.php?title=Foreign_language_learning_statistics&amp;printable=yes\">Eurostat data<\/a>\u00a0shows.<\/p>\n<p>Many European countries have enrollment rates close to 100 percent, with an average of 91 percent of primary and secondary school students learning at least one foreign language across the European Union.<\/p>\n<p><strong>More than one in three students in the EU even study two or more foreign languages, showing that many student learn more than &#8220;just&#8221;
