But this could change in a few months, if the government approves the proposal of the German economy ministry to have subsidies abolished for projects of less than 25 kilowatts, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/oilprice.com\/Latest-Energy-News\/World-News\/Germany-Plans-to-Scrap-Subsidy-for-Small-Scale-Rooftop-Solar.html\">OilPrice<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry argues that the small rooftop solar are now often viable on their own without incentives, thanks to the lower costs.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cTo strengthen the cost efficiency of solar expansion, a stronger focus will in future be placed on cost-effective solar parks,\u201d<\/strong> the ministry\u2019s proposal reads, as carried by Bloomberg.<\/p>\n<p>The plans for a reform of the subsidies was first leaked by German media outlets.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the leaked draft is genuine, it would be yet another attack on renewable energy, following the grid package proposal,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bee-ev.de\/service\/pressemitteilungen\/beitrag\/bee-ad-hoc-statement-zum-eeg-leak\">said<\/a> Ursula Heinen-Esser, president of Germany\u2019s renewable energy association BEE.<\/p>\n<p>Abolishing support for rooftop solar would have \u201cdisastrous consequences\u201d for the sector and would deprive homeowners from participating in the energy transition, Heinen-Esser added.<\/p>\n<p>The German Solar Association, BSW-Solar, also <a href=\"https:\/\/www.solarwirtschaft.de\/2026\/02\/26\/solarbranche-warnt-vor-kahlschlag-beim-solarausbau\/\">deplored<\/a> the leaked draft proposal as \u201ca frontal attack on Germany\u2019s energy transition.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Germany plans to boost onshore wind capacity to 115 gigawatts and solar capacity to 215 gigawatts by the end of the decade\u2014targets which it will keep in the proposal for reforms.
