Jeffrey Sachs: ‘Trump Is An Utter Disgrace To Our Nation – He Lied To Us’<\/span><\/p>\n

Columbia University economics professor Jeffrey D. Sachs appeared on Judge Napolitano’s ‘Judging Freedom’ podcast Monday, where he\u00a0railed against the US-Israeli attack on Iran and the ‘CIA-led security state,’\u00a0<\/strong>calling President Donald Trump a ‘disgrace to our nation’ because ‘he lied to us.’<\/p>\n

Sachs, a longtime critic of U.S. foreign policy, described the recent escalation as the continuation of a decades-old strategy he linked to Israeli and U.S. intelligence objectives dating back to 1996.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a long-term plan. This is a Mossad CIA plan for American control of the Middle East and Israeli military hegemony in the Middle East that has been underway since 1996,<\/strong>\u201d Sachs said. \u201cThis is madness. This is murderous delusion.\u201d<\/p>\n

The professor pointed to a series of U.S.-backed or U.S.-involved conflicts across the region, from Libya and Sudan to Somalia and the ongoing crisis in Gaza, as evidence of a consistent pattern aimed ultimately at confronting Iran.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt has involved wars across the Middle East. It has left rivers of blood from Libya to Sudan, Somalia, the genocide in Gaza<\/strong>,\u201d he said, adding that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu\u2019s goal since the mid-1990s has been \u201cthe destruction of Iran.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sachs reserved some of his strongest language for Trump, whom he said reversed course on key foreign-policy pledges after taking office.<\/p>\n

\u201cTrump\u2026 is an utter disgrace to our nation. Utter disgrace. He lied to us. Every word about America first\u2026 And he did exactly the opposite of what he said,<\/strong>\u201d Sachs stated.<\/p>\n

The economist also criticized Washington\u2019s approach to diplomacy more broadly, arguing that the United States has abandoned genuine negotiation in favor of coercive tactics.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe United States does not negotiate. It cheats\u2026 Now they kill you because if you negotiate, it means you\u2019re weak,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

On the domestic front, Sachs connected the country\u2019s infrastructure challenges to the enormous costs of overseas military engagements.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy do the roads not work and the bridges not work in the United States?\u2026 It\u2019s because we spend trillions of dollars in war,\u201d he said. \u201cChina just completed its 50,000th kilometer of fast rail because China doesn\u2019t go to war<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sachs concluded by expressing deep skepticism about the current state of American governance.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re in the hands of gangsters. We\u2019re not in the hands of a constitutional system,\u201d he said, noting that only a handful of lawmakers – citing Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) as one example – have pushed back.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
