Mills: Trump Admin “Reveling In The Carnage” As Tehran Burns<\/span><\/p>\n

Last night, Bret Weinstein joined ZeroHedge to moderate a debate on the Iran war featuring Curt Mills, executive director of The American Conservative<\/em> (magazine founded by Pat Buchanan), and Max Abrahms, Northeastern University professor and terrorism expert.<\/p>\n

The discussion went far and wide. From Chabad to whether the war has strengthened Iranian hardliners to the question of Israeli influence over U.S. policy to how this war affects Russia-Ukraine.<\/p>\n

Below are some of the most notable exchanges for those who missed it:<\/p>\n

Can Trump Wrangle Israel?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Abrahms argued that claims Israel dictates U.S. policy ignore numerous cases where Washington has acted against Israeli preferences. He pointed to the influence of Tom Barrack, Trump\u2019s ambassador to Turkey who is \u201cabsolutely reviled by many Israelis,\u201d and policies such as ending sanctions on Syria, inviting the new Syrian president to the White House, and cultivating close ties with Qatar, Pakistan, and Turkey\u2019s Erdo\u011fan. On Gaza, Abrahms said Donald Trump \u201ctold Netanyahu, you need to stop prosecuting this war against Hamas,\u201d<\/strong> adding that even critics like Steve Bannon acknowledge Trump has been \u201ctelling [Israelis] what they can and cannot do.\u201d<\/p>\n

Abrahms also cited last June\u2019s \u201c12-day war\u201d with Iran, saying Israel wanted to continue strikes but Trump intervened. \u201cIsrael had planes over Tehran and Trump said, \u2018I don\u2019t like this\u2019… Literally in the skies over Tehran, the Israeli planes were sent home.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mills rejected the framing. \u201cIt\u2019s an archetypal straw man.\u201d Conceding that the administration has taken steps \u201ccertain people in Israel\u2026 don\u2019t prefer,\u201d Mills argued the larger objective remains unchanged: \u201cThe holy grail of the Israeli hardline and neoconservatives\u2026 has for a long time been an Iran war\u2026 and they just got it done.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tucker And \u201cThe Jews\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Abrahms accused Tucker Carlson of blaming \u201cthe Jews\u201d<\/strong> for the war, pointing to Carlson\u2019s claim that Chabad-Lubavitch and Christian Evangelicals were at least partially behind the conflict, a theory outlined in his latest monologue<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Both Mills and Weinstein rejected that accusation. \u201cThat\u2019s a far cry from the Jews,\u201d<\/strong> Weinstein said. \u201cThere is all the difference in the world between an organization to which some people belong and many do not and the Jews, which is a large lineage.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cCrystal Meth Rumsfeld\u201d<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mills argued that the most serious consequence is diplomatic. \u201cI think currently the biggest macro problem actually is that the U.S.\u2019s diplomatic word is getting crushed<\/strong>.\u201d In his view, the war will \u201charm Trump\u2019s ability to make a deal with the Russians to end the war in Ukraine\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cpermanently scar any future president\u2019s maneuverability and diplomacy.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mills questioned whether the purported strategic gains are gains<\/em> at all.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you think the Iranians are bad dudes, they just replaced the 90-year-old Khamenei with a 58-year-old Khamenei,\u201d he said, adding that the conflict has \u201cfurther entrenched their military and economic elite, the IRGC.\u201d At home, it’s also emboldened the worst factions, politically vindicating hardliners like Rubio, Graham, and Cotton who argue \u201cyou cannot deal with the United States\u2026 that the U.S. only responds to force.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rumsfeld: “I can’t tell you if the use of force in Iraq today would last five days or five weeks or five months, but it certainly isn’t gonna last any longer than that.”<\/p>\n

Mills also directed criticism at Pete Hegseth, comparing him to \u201ccrystal meth Rumsfeld<\/strong>.\u201d The rhetoric about \u201clethality\u201d and a \u201creign of terror\u2026 over Iranian skies\u201d<\/strong> suggested officials were \u201creveling in the carnage.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

Lastly, and possibly the worst blunder of all, the fatwa discouraging nuclear weapons came from Iran\u2019s deceased supreme leader, and \u201cit\u2019s very possible they\u2019re just going to chuck that now and lunge for a crude nuclear device.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n
