Seahawks DBs coach Karl Scott interviews for Cardinals defensive coordinator job

The Seattle Seahawks have already lost offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak to the Las Vegas Raiders, and it won’t be a surprise if they lose more assistant coaches following their Super Bowl victory. One name to watch is defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Karl Scott, who’s been with the team since Pete Carroll was still the head coach.
Having already interviewed for the (since filled) Washington Commanders defensive coordinator position, Scott has also been courted by the NFC West rival Arizona Cardinals.

Scott has been one of the architects of Seattle’s secondary, developing the likes of recent draft picks Devon Witherspoon, Riq Woolen, Nick Emmanwori, and Coby Bryant. When Field Gulls spoke with safety Ty Okada at the Super Bowl last week, he cited Coach Scott as a great influence from the moment he was signed by Seattle as an undrafted rookie in 2023.
“I’m so thankful for coach K-Scott,” Okada said. “He’s been with me since my rookie year. I was very thankful that he stuck around.
“He’s the ultimate teacher. He does such a great job of coaching us up in the DB room. The way he communicate—he’s so clear and concise. The way he communicates, he’s an awesome coach, an awesome person, so I’m extremely thankful to learn from him since my rookie year.”
Arizona is in rebuild mode after the Jonathan Gannon experience didn’t pan out after three seasons. Mike LaFleur, formerly of the Los Angeles Rams and the brother of Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, is tasked with trying to get the Cardinals their first playoff appearance since 2021 and first playoff win since the 2015 season.
We’ll see how much of a coaching drain the Seahawks have to endure in the coming weeks as teams with new head coaches fill out their respective staffs.

Jeremy Sochan: To the city of San Antonio… When I was drafted, I didn’t realize how quickly this would feel like home. I’ve moved around a lot throughout my life, and this is the longest I’ve been in the same place since I was 15 years old. Through the ups and downs, I learned a lot, kept growing, and always stayed true to myself. This community and the fans embraced me from day one! It’s bigger than basketball and I’m forever grateful. I’ll always have love for San Antonio! Everything happens for a reason & time will tell… 🤍

Knicks do not have to make a corresponding move to add …
Ian Begley: Knicks do not have to make a corresponding move to add Jeremy Sochan. They have a roster spot available. Thanks to salary shed at trade deadline, they also have enough money to sign Sochan to a vet min deal. Knicks & Spurs talked Sochan-Yabusele deal prior to deadline but they did not much traction. Knicks wouldn’t have been able to sign Sochan now if they hadn’t shed salary at the trade deadline. ESPN first reported Sochan signing.

Fresh Faces on the Forty: Freshman ATH Jermaine Bishop Jr.
We talked about Tyler Atkinson in the last edition of Fresh Faces on the Forty. This time around, it’s the other freshman I believe will have an instant impact for the Longhorns, Jermaine Bishop Jr.. Bishop comes in as the No. 2 ATH in the country and one of the most dynamic playmakers in the 2026 recruiting class. Bishop, like Atkinson, I believe will be just impossible to keep off the field in his rookie season.
Highschool Stats: 283 catches, 4,919 receiving yards, 55 TDs over three seasons
Much of Bishop’s work in high school came at the WR position. That being said, he did damage literally everywhere on the field. In his senior season, he notched 424 yards and 8 TDs on the ground, 3 passing TDs and even 4 INTs on the defensive side of the ball. This is someone that if needed, the Longhorns could very well figure into the secondary rotation. Now this season, that’s not likely the case so I expect him to be a factor in more on the offensive side of the ball.
5-star Texas ATH commit Jermaine Bishop Jr. puts Willis up three scores with an 85 yard pick-six playing from the safety spot #HookEm
The pick-six is Bishop’s 14th career INT, 3rd career pick-six, and 6th career non-offensive touchdown 🎥: @dctfhttps://t.co/8F95LP0pl9pic.twitter.com/Ep7lajIFqZ
— Jordan Scruggs (@JScruggs247) October 18, 2025
The thing that makes Bishop special and why it’ll be easier for him to get on the field is he can line up anywhere. He’s comfortable on the outside, in the slot and in the backfield. That gives Sarkisian the ability to keep his top 3 WRs on the field and still factor Bishop into the equation out of the backfield. That’s the chess piece-energy Malachi Toney gave Miami in 2025 and I believe that’s what Bishop can give Texas in 2026.
92. YARDS. JERMAINE BISHOP JR.
The future Texas Longhorn (@B6Jermaine) takes it to the crib to put Willis out in front. 🤘

Now, that’s not to say he can’t find his way into the normal rotation at WR either. It’s clear Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo and Emmett Mosley V will lead the way for Texas, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Bishop on the two-deep by the Texas State game. Not to mention I expect to see more rotation overall in 2026, understanding they’ll need to play 16 games to reach the ultimate goal.
Bishop is a special player. He’s someone that will find a way on the field because he is uniquely special with the ball in their hands. Texas has many of those players heading into 2026, but this player will be undeniable. We will see Bishop on the field in 2026 and likely for two more seasons before he’s off to the NFL. If his high school career is any indication, Longhorns fans will thoroughly enjoy those three seasons.
5-star Texas ATH commit Jermaine Bishop Jr. in Willis’ 38-32 third round playoff win over Forney:
– 15 receptions for 328 yards and 3 TDs
– 7 carries for 19 yards and a TD
– 2-3 passing for 42 yards
– A 39 yard punt that put Forney on their own 14 with 0:17 left on the clock… pic.twitter.com/8AzYaqAbRP

Bishop and Tyler Atkinson are the two freshmen I expect to see on the field nearly every game for the Longhorns. There’s a number of others that might need some time but I expect to factor in later in the season including Richard Wesley. The 16-year old reclassified from the 2027 class to 2026 and has already made his way onto campus. Wesley will need some time to put it together, but this could be as special a player Texas signed in the 2026 class.

Barcelona miss out on Dutch under-18 defensive starlet
Barcelona miss out on Dutch under-18 defensive starlet
Given the lack of business in the senior side, the relatively busy January transfer market from Director of Football Deco in the youth ranks has caught the eye. Deco has made it a priority to continue recruiting talented youngsters in their teenage years to strengthen Barca Atletic.
Included in that signing spree are Dutch defender Juwensley Onstein, Patricio Pacifico and Hamza Abdelkarim, who arrived from Belgium, Uruguay and Egypt respectively. However they did not manage to get deals over the line for all of their targets, although Sport say they are in advanced talks still for Jesse Bisiwu at Club Brugge.
Barcelona to miss out on Nijstad signing
Image via Sport
Onstein could well have been playing alongside one of his youth international teammates for the Netherlands at Barca Atletic, but the Catalan daily note that Barcelona will miss out on Ruud Nijstad. The information comes from the WFC Groningen insider account, who say that he will remain at FC Twente for the time being. Nijstad is set to sign a new deal in Enschede, and commit his future there.
Barcelona had been in negotiations with Twente, but their move was described as ambitious. Nijstad no doubt weighed up the apparent promise of first-team football in the Eredivisie, having already made 12 first-team appearances for Twente this season.
Barcelona’s recruitment strategy in the youth ranks
While of course Barcelona are looking for prospects that can make it into the first-team, it seems Deco is very much keen on signing players that can be sold on at a profit too. That was the case with Mikayil Faye, Julian Araujo and Ez Abde. Currently in their senior squad, the only young players signed that were already at a professional age are Gerard Martin, who was signed from Cornella, and Roony Bardghji, who had already played Champions League football for FC Copenhagen.

The quarterback the New York Jets should gamble on in 2026.
Now that Super Bowl LX is over and the Seattle Seahawks are champions, the New York Jets will now focus on the offseason as they look to take a major step forward in 2026 after finishing last season with an abysmal 3-14 record in Aaron Glenn’s first year as head coach.
The Jets will have plenty of draft picks as well as plenty of salary cap space to improve their roster. With the announcement by the NFL that the salary cap has been increased to roughly over $303 million in 2026, the Jets currently have $83 million available to spend, fourth most in the league. Whether by trade or by free agency, expect the Jets to be very active with plenty of areas that need to be fixed.
But the billion-dollar question remains: Who will be the Jets quarterback in 2026? What we know for certain is the next quarterback won’t be selected with the second overall pick in April’s NFL draft. There will be plenty of options available through trade or free agency. But, the grizzled veteran quarterbacks available may not necessarily be the key to saving Glenn’s job in New York.
If the Jets are going to gamble on the most important position for next season, they might as well go big or go home. With Frank Reich now serving as the team’s offensive coordinator, names like Jacoby Brissett and Carson Wentz are being thrown around as the potential Jets starter. While that would make sense since both played for Reich when he was head coach in Indianapolis, why not take a gamble on a young quarterback that comes from a winning culture? A quarterback who learned under a Super Bowl MVP as well as a Super bowl winning head coach? Why not roll the dice on Philadelphia Eagles backup quarterback Tanner McKee?
Now, let me preface this by saying McKee is a colossal risk at a position the Jets can’t afford to get wrong. He’s been in the league for two years and has only appeared in six games over that time. He’s thrown for close to 600 yards, five touchdowns and only one interception in those two seasons combined.
He’ll be 26 years old in April and has the size and the arm strength that Reich loves in his quarterbacks. McKee is a pocket passer that stands 6’6 and weighs 231 lbs. He only has one start on his resume in Week 18 of the 2024 season against the New York Giants. McKee got the win, threw for 269 yards, two touchdowns, no interceptions and completed 65% of his passes. It’s a very, very, very small sample size, but is speaks to his potential, which has been Glenn and Mougey’s strategy when evaluating players to improve the roster.
While it seems like the safe play to bring in a veteran such as Mariota or Cousins, those moves come with similar risks as acquiring McKee. Even if the Jets improve their record with an experienced veteran, they’ll be right back to where they started looking for a new quarterback in 2027 as it would be highly unlikely Mougey would give an older veteran an extension regardless of performance.
But, McKee is the ultimate lottery ticket. He’s young and comes from a winning culture in Philadelphia. He has the physical tools. He’ll relish the chance to be a starter in the NFL where other veteran quarterbacks may only sign with the Jets to collect a check.
Like most quarterbacks, McKee does have his flaws, the main one being he’s strictly a pocket passer with little to no mobility. That may not be a major issue with the Jets running game, especially if Breece Hall returns next season. McKee’s upside is off the charts and if he plays well, the Jets may not have to worry about finding a franchise quarterback and can use their future draft capital on other areas of need.
Glenn knows his back’s against the wall. Whether he signs a proven veteran or trades for a quarterback with potential in McKee, he’s rolling the dice with his job in either scenario. The 2026 season is do or die for Glenn. With those types of stakes, It may make more sense to pass on the older more established veteran that may buy the head coach another year and risk it all on the young underdog in Tanner McKee, a quarterback with the physical tools and plenty to prove.

Dodgers’ Max Muncy and Kike Hernandez Contract Details Revealed
The Los Angeles Dodgers completed one of their last bits of notable business on the day before pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training.
Both Max Muncy and Kike Hernandez, two seasoned veterans who have played key roles in the Dodgers’ dynasty, agreed to new deals with the franchise.
Muncy’s deal was set to expire at the end of the 2026 season, but the Dodgers have awarded him a two-year extension, with the final year a team option for 2028.
He will be paid $7 million in 2027, meaning he is guaranteed at least one more season’s worth of pay. In 2028, the club option is worth $10 million, but if the Dodgers decline it, they will still pay Muncy $3 million.

The Dodgers are giving Muncy the security of another year of baseball with the Dodgers beyond the 2026 chase for a three-peat.
Only a little time after Muncy’s new contract was announced, Kike Hernandez announced that he is returning in a social media post.
“What else did we expect? 3 in a row has a nice ring to it,” the fan-favorite wrote on Instagram.
What are Kike Hernandez’s new contract details?
According to The Athletic’s Fabian Ardaya, Hernandez is signing a one-year, $4.5 million deal that will see him return for another season, following a similar pattern with the Dodgers and the player reuniting on a season-to-season basis.
He has come back to the team now five times, either in free agency or trade, and with the unfinished business of a three-peat pending for Los Angeles, it makes all the sense in the world that he is coming back.
Hernandez underwent surgery on his elbow after the season in November, resulting in him missing the start of the season and the World Baseball Classic.
“My people of Puerto Rico; with a heavy heart, I have to let you know that I won’t be able to fulfill my dream of playing in the World Series in my homeland!” Hernandez wrote in an Instagram post.
“Yesterday, Friday, November 14th, I had to have my elbow extensor muscle repaired, since I suffered a tear in May, and continuing to play with the desire to repeat as World Series Champion caused it to detach from the bone. “The rehabilitation won’t allow me to be ready in time to wear the uniform with Puerto Rico on my chest. I hope you understand. I LOVE YOU! ??”
With his future now secure for this season, the Dodgers are in a position to add him to the 60-day injured list and let him get healthy for a postseason run.

Jets get worrying Breece Hall update with looming $14M franchise tag decision
Jets get worrying Breece Hall update with looming $14M franchise tag decision originally appeared on The Sporting News.

The New York Jets are entering a pivotal offseason that could decide the future of Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey in their Jets jobs. Having a bad or lackluster offseason will only make their seats hotter.
One of the keys to the offseason for the Jets is what they decide to do with running back Breece Hall. He’s hitting the open market after a career-high in rushing yards with 1,065 this past season. He’ll have a robust market. But will the Jets keep him?
Unfortunately for Jets fans, Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports revealed a worrying update on Hall. With the roughly $14 million franchise tag being their best option to keep him, Jones is reporting that such a tag isn’t expected for Hall.
Jets not expected to franchise tag Breece Hall in worrying rumor
“(Kenneth) Walker is the most likely tag candidate, and we’ve already addressed (Travis) Etienne,” Jones writes. “The only other remotely plausible option is Breece Hall, but that seems extremely unlikely as well.”
This update on Hall from Jones is a very worrying one. If the Jets don’t franchise tag Hall this offseason, then he’s more likely than not going to sign with a new team.
He’s shown signs of wanting out, with his trade deadline comments and his Super Bowl aspirations. Combined with the Jets being a ways away from the playoffs, let alone a Super Bowl, Hall would be very likely to sign elsewhere if he hits free agency.
Of course, the Jets could stop that from happening, franchise tagging Hall on a one-year deal worth roughly $14 million. They’ve been rumored to be strongly considering it before, but this latest update from Jones is some bad news.
More: Why Jets won’t let Breece Hall hit free agency even if there’s no extension
Jones is reporting that such a scenario, a roughly $14 million franchise tag being placed on Hall after his strong 2025 season, is “extremely unlikely.”
If a tag is that unlikely to happen, the Hall leaving the Jets looks to be a lot more likely to happen than a possible return for Hall this offseason.
There are plenty of ways to address the running back position, whether it’s in free agency with a different back like Rico Dowdle, Javonte Williams, or Rachaad White, or in the draft after the first round.
Re-signing, or franchise tagging Hall, would be ideal for the Jets. But, with so many needs all across the roster, it looks more likely than not that the Jets will be letting Hall walk this offseason.
