Former USC quarterback Husan Longstreet announced he is entering the NCAA Transfer Portal Friday morning, per On3 Sports<\/a>. Longstreet was a five-star recruit in the Class of 2025 and was ranked as the fourth-best quarterback in the class by 247Sports.<\/p>\n

On3\u2019s Steve Wiltfong says<\/a> Longstreet\u2019s No. 1 landing spot at the moment is Oregon, but there are a couple of reasons LSU could land the former top recruit.<\/p>\n

First, Wiltfong interviewed Longstreet\u2019s father for his article, who explained Longstreet\u2019s reason for transferring.<\/p>\n

\u201c[Husan] said I want to be able to contribute to winning a National Championship and that\u2019s not holding the ball on the sideline,\u201d his father explained.<\/a> \u201cHe wants to play now and give himself his best shot.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Oregon\u2019s quarterback, Dante Moore, has yet to announce whether he will return to the Ducks for the 2026 season. Several draft analysts believe the 20-year-old would be a top-five pick if he were to enter the NFL Draft, but Oregon would pay him handsomely to return for one more year. If Moore decides to stay in Eugene for one more season, Longstreet wouldn\u2019t get the immediate playing time he clearly desires, which could prompt him to look elsewhere.<\/p>\n

LSU doesn\u2019t face the same competition problem. After the Sam Leavitt\/Demond Williams situation<\/a>, it seems likely that Lane Kiffin and his staff are scrambling to find a solution at quarterback. If LSU doesn\u2019t sign another quarterback as highly touted as Longstreet, which seems probable at this point, he would have an easy path to playing time in Baton Rouge.<\/p>\n

Another reason is that Longstreet has a connection to Kiffin and LSU offensive coordinator Charlie Weis Jr. According to his 247Sports recruiting profile<\/a>, Ole Miss was among his Top Eight landing spots in 2023, when Weis served as the Rebels\u2019 OC and quarterbacks coach.\u00a0Longstreet took an unofficial visit<\/a> to Oxford in April 2024, further supporting the idea that he has some familiarity with the staff.<\/p>\n

If LSU\u2019s quarterback situation is as dire as it seems, Longstreet could be the solution. Landing on a young quarterback who\u2019s thrown only 15 passes in college isn\u2019t exactly ideal, but there don\u2019t appear to be many better options.<\/p>\n
