After suffering a lower-body injury during the quarterfinal game against Czechia<\/a>, Team Canada men\u2019s hockey captain Sidney Crosby wasn\u2019t able to play<\/a> in the gold medal game.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, Team USA defeated Canada<\/a> 2-1 in overtime to clinch gold.<\/p>\n

The Penguins report<\/a> that Crosby\u2019s status decision for the final came down to the wire.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was pretty close,\u201d Crosby said. \u201cUltimately, I wasn\u2019t able to go out there and do what I needed to do in order to help the team. At that point, you have to make a decision that\u2019s best for the group. It\u2019s not an easy one, but that\u2019s hockey.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jack Hughes scored the game-winning goal that made the U.S. men\u2019s hockey team Olympic Champions for the first time since 1980. Hughes plays for the New Jersey Devils, who the Penguins are scheduled to face at home on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Crosby reflected on his team\u2019s performance throughout the Milan Cortina Games.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought that the way we played all tournament, even the games leading up, I thought we were really good,\u201d Crosby said. \u201cWe were tested in some of those games. It\u2019s not easy to get to this point, and we just found ways. I thought one of our best games was probably today. And unfortunately, it doesn\u2019t work out for us. But I\u2019m just really proud of the group and the way we competed and the way we played.\u201d<\/p>\n
