Arguably one of the most controversial plays<\/a> in National Football League history, the Tush Push<\/a> made popular by the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> has received an important update. And it\u2019s great news for the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> and their Spartan variant of the play.<\/p>\n

According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Rich McKay of the NFL Competition Committee announced that “no team has offered a proposal to ban the Tush Push,” and there weren’t any talks about changing the rule.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Pittsburgh debuted their own version with great success in 2025, naming it the Spartan after Connor Heyward<\/a>, who lines up under center for the play and his ties to Michigan State.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Steelers<\/a> have used a trick play variation where running back Kenneth Gainwell is handed the ball, which is named Yazoo after his hometown in Mississippi.<\/p>\n

The Green Bay Packers first submitted a proposal to ban the controversial Tush Push in February 2025, when the play then became a hotly debated topic at the Annual League Meeting in March. It appears, though, that after two failed attempts to ban the play, the Tush Push \u2014 and Pittsburgh’s Spartan variant \u2014 is here to stay.<\/p>\n
