The tush push allows teammates to shove the quarterback for extra yards, including when forward movement ceases, to obtain a fresh set of downs. <\/p>\n<p>The play, popularized by the Philadelphia Eagles, became controversial following Super Bowl LIX in 2025. The Green Bay Packers submitted a proposal to ban the play that offseason. The <a href=\"https:\/\/sportsdata.usatoday.com\/football\/nfl\/teams\/new-england-patriots\/348\" target=\"_blank\">Patriots<\/a> successfully voted against banning the tush push. The appeal to eradicate the style of quarterback sneak was not upheld before the start of last season.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/2025744452396917129?s=20\">According to ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter,<\/a> NFL competition committee co-chairman Rich McKay \u201cis not anticipating an attempt to ban the tush push\u201d in 2026.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriots will have the opportunity to either raise a proposal to, or vote to have the tush push banned beginning in the 2026 season.
