Naomi Osaka, (born October 16, 1997, Ōsaka, Japan), Japanese tennis player and activist who, with her victory at the 2018 U.S. Open, became the first player from Japan to win a Grand Slam singles title. She also became in 2019 the first Asian player to ascend to the top of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) world rankings. In addition, Osaka is known as an advocate for social justice.
