FIRST PLAINSMAN. By the time it formally changed its name to the Auburn Plainsman on November 18, 1922, the “rag” had reorganized along the styles of the era’s major newspapers, with dedicated sports sections, advertisements, more photographs, new typefaces, a “beat” system of reporting and a managing editor position, while a business manager kept the newspaper financially independent.
