Works fine (eventually!) to extend laptop display to very old monitor. To begin with I got a black monitor screen with an “Input signal out of range” message that popped up briefly and disappeared quickly enough to miss while I was ferreting around checking connections. Windows 10 display settings were useless and Googling didn’t get me anywhere.
