Anthony Hopkins, Welsh stage and film actor, often at his best when playing pathetic misfits or characters on the fringes of sanity. The role with which Hopkins is most identified, and for which he received an Oscar, was that of serial killer Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs (1991).
