The Julian calendar has gradually been abandoned since 1582 in favour of the Gregorian calendar. Great Britain changed to the Gregorian calendar in 1752. Some Eastern Orthodox churches continue to use the Julian calendar for determining fixed liturgical dates; others have used the Revised Julian calendar, which closely resembles the Gregorian calendar, since 1923 for such dates.
