Former Ryder Cup player Alliss, the ‘voice of golf’, dies aged 89
Englishman Alliss, who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame for his services to the sport in 2012, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, the Tour added in a statement https://www.europeantour.com/european-tour/news/articles/detail/peter-alliss-1931-2020. “We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Peter Alliss, truly one of golf’s greats,” European Tour CEO Keith Pelley said.

Peter Alliss, the ‘Voice of Golf’ on British TV, dies at 89
Peter Alliss, who became the eccentric “Voice of Golf” on British television after a playing career in which he competed in eight Ryder Cups and was Europe’s best golfer for two seasons, has died. “Peter’s death was unexpected but peaceful,” the family said in a statement through the BBC, where he worked. Alliss won 23 tournaments worldwide in a professional career that ended in 1974 and was the Vardon Trophy winner — for the leading player on the British PGA, the forerunner to the European Tour — in 1964 and ’66.

UFC to slash roster before year-end, says Dana White
White was responding to a question about Cuban middleweight Yoel Romero, who was recently dropped by the organisation despite fighting for the title as recently as last March. The UFC currently lists 724 active fighters on its website (www.ufc.com), comprising 117 women and 607 men. “We’re gonna go through some serious cuts here at the end of the year, probably going to have 60 cuts here before the end of the year … our roster is very inflated right now,” White told reporters.
