The 33-year-old was forced off in the first half of Saturday’s win at Twickenham and on Monday the IRFU said he “will continue to be monitored by the medical team” before the game against Wales on 6 March.

The IRFU also confirmed that back row Jack Conan will return to training this week after missing the the record win over England through illness.

Houston Astros' Cam Smith jersey retired at Palm Beach Central

Last spring, Cam Smith was the sensation of the Houston Astros’ training camp.

After playing only 32 minor league games, the former Palm Beach Central High and Florida State standout got manager Joe Espada’s attention right away, hitting two home runs against the New York Mets on Feb. 25. By the time Houston broke camp a month later, Smith was the team leader in homers (4) and RBIs (11) and had a .342 batting average.

The Astros were so impressed that they gave Smith, a career infielder, a trial in the outfield to give him a better shot at making the big league club. Smith passed the audition and opened the season as Houston’s starting right fielder.

A year later, instead of trying to win a job, Smith is fighting to keep one.

“I’ve still got to earn my spot, but I’m ready,” he said during a Feb. 20 visit to Palm Beach Central, where his jersey was retired and he threw out the first pitch before the Broncos’ game against Park Vista.

Astros general manager Dana Brown, in a meeting with reporters in November, made it clear that Smith was not assured of a roster spot after his struggles at the plate in the second half of the 2025 season.

“I would think he comes back and tries to play with more consistency and makes the necessary adjustments,” Brown said. “But we have to be open to sending him back to Triple A if he hasn’t turned the corner.”

That puts Smith under the microscope far more than he was last year, when he came to the Astros as the key player in the trade that sent outfielder Kyle Tucker to the Cubs.

Smith, the 14th overall pick in the MLB draft in 2024, hadn’t played above Double A when he entered camp. With the Astros set in the infield, a ticket to Triple A Sugar Land appeared likely, before he began turning heads.

Even then, Smith’s spot on the opening-day roster wasn’t assured until Espada broke the news to him in front of his teammates — and his parents — two days before the opener. In a moment that went viral, Smith broke down in tears and hugged his mother.

“I think it’s best that you get thrown in the fire and just adjust and adapt as you go,” Smith said. “I wouldn’t trade it for the world. I think they made the right decision — I know for a fact they did. I’ve learned so much and I can’t wait for this next season.”

Smith, a shortstop at Palm Beach Central and a third baseman at Florida State, played only a week’s worth of games in the outfield before making his MLB debut.

“There was definitely an adjustment period,” he said. “Literally the biggest difference is I’m so far away compared to being at the hot corner. I had to get my eyes used to seeing that far away. The other difference is I really get to run around there and show off my speed a little bit more. I had a lot of fun with it.”

Smith made a smooth defensive transition and got off to a promising start at the plate, but his .765 OPS in the first half of the season gave way to a .489 mark after the All-Star break. His final numbers were substandard for an MLB outfielder: .236 average, nine home runs, 51 RBIs.

“As a whole, I didn’t produce for my people behind me like I wanted to,” Smith said. “But I also had some great moments, some lifetime memories, so it was a dream come true every single day stepping on that field.”

The Astros are a team in flux after missing the playoffs last year, ending a string of eight consecutive appearances that included two World Series titles. Their outfield was one of the least productive in baseball. Left fielder Zach Cole and center fielder Jake Meyers have the inside track on starting jobs, but right field remains up for grabs.

“The veteran guys that have done it, have a track record, they’re penciled in,” Brown said in November. “The other guys, I feel like we have to let it play out, see who comes in hot and see who owns it. There’s a lot to be said for guys that work hard in the offseason and then make the necessary adjustments. We’re hoping that Cam does that. If he does that, we’ll be excited.”

Smith, ever the optimist, said he’s ready to help the Astros get back to the postseason.

“I always want to get better,” he said. “I think that’s my motto — 1% better every day. I’m always striving to reach the top. … We always have that goal of reaching the World Series and winning it all, bringing it back to Houston. We’ve got everything we need.”

Daily Norseman fan census: Where in the world do Minnesota Vikings fans live?

EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEY – DECEMBER 21: Minnesota Vikings fans wait for players to walk off the field after the NFL 2025 game between Minnesota Vikings and New York Giants at MetLife Stadium on December 21, 2025 in East Rutherford, New Jersey. (Photo by Elsa/Getty Images) | Getty Images

We’re in that slow period between the Super Bowl and the new league year where it sometimes feels like the NFL world has ground to a halt. And that makes it a perfect time to ask: Where in the world are our Daily Norseman readers?

We don’t want or need your address or any personal details — sharing just the state is fine, or city and state if you’d like to be more specific. Same thing if you live abroad – if you’d like to just share the country, that’s cool, and if you want to share more details like the city or region, that’s totally up to you.

As we get more and more folks to respond, I’ll start putting together a list of countries, states, and cities. I believe that we’ve done something like this in the past, but it’s always nice to catch up and see where everyone is hanging out at and calling home.

Damon Hill makes Williams return after Jenson Button's exit

Motorsport photo

Damon Hill will return to Williams as its official ambassador for the 2026 Formula 1 campaign, just weeks after Jenson Button left that role for Aston Martin.

It comes on the 30th anniversary of Hill clinching the world title at the British outfit, where he spent half of his eight-year F1 career, taking 21 of his 22 grand prix victories.

The 65-year-old will be part of a three-person ambassadorial team, alongside former team-mate and 1997 world champion Jacques Villeneuve plus three-time W Series champion Jamie Chadwick.

“Williams is truly a special place for me and where some of the defining moments of my career took place,” said Hill, who in recent years has been a Sky Sports F1 pundit before departing at the end of 2025.

“I feel incredibly lucky to have been part of this sport and to have achieved what I did, and returning as an ambassador is a real privilege. It’s an opportunity to celebrate the team’s history and help to support its legacy and future.”

Hill is effectively replacing fellow world champion Button, who earlier in February announced that he had departed Williams to become an ambassador at Aston Martin on a multi-year basis.

The Briton, who made his F1 debut with Williams in 2000, held his job at the Grove-based squad for five seasons, but is now supporting Aston’s “media, partner and commercial” activities.

This comes ahead of the 2026 season, which will debut wholesale regulation changes at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix on 6-8 March, where Williams will arrive expecting to be firmly in the midfield fight.

“It’s an honour to welcome Damon back to Williams,” said team principal James Vowles. “Few individuals represent this team quite like him.

“Damon played a defining role in one of the most successful eras in our history, becoming a world champion with Williams and leaving a legacy that continues to inspire the team today.

“We’re also delighted that Jamie Chadwick and Jacques Villeneuve will continue with us as ambassadors.

“Together, they form an impressive line-up that reflects everything Williams stands for: our history, our commitment to opening doors and developing talent, and our ambition to compete at the very highest level again.

“Having figures like them representing Williams as we move forward is something we’re immensely proud of.”

Although this’ll be Hill’s first season in the job, Villeneuve, who is the last driver to have won Williams the world title, joined in 2025 while Chadwick started in 2024 and she will also advise the team’s latest F1 Academy recruit Jade Jacquet.

Two of the worst teams in the Western Conference meet tonight as the Sacramento Kings face the Memphis Grizzlies. Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET at the FedExForum.

My Kings vs. Grizzlies predictions are targeting Memphis to add to Sacramento’s recent misery.

Read more in my NBA picks for Monday, February 23.

Kings vs Grizzlies prediction

Kings vs Grizzlies best bet: Grizzlies -4 (-110)

The Memphis Grizzlies are sitting in 11th place in the Western Conference with a 21-34 record. However, they’ve covered tonight’s spread in back-to-back games at home, comfortably beating the Timberwolves and Jazz.

Memphis is riding a three-game winning streak against the Sacramento Kings, who are in 15th place in the West. Sacramento has lost 16 in a row and has been absolutely blown out in four straight, losing by at least 17 points each time.

The Grizzlies have covered the spread in two of their three victories against the lowly Kings in 2025-26.

Kings vs Grizzlies same-game parlay

Jaylen Wells is coming off an impressive 25-point showing in Saturday’s loss to the Heat. He’s cashed the Over in four of his last seven, and he’s averaging 16.3 points per game in February.

In three meetings with Sacramento this season, Wells is also averaging 15.3 PPG.

The Kings have scored fewer than 100 points in three of their last four, and that wasn’t even against any elite defensive teams. Memphis ranks 16th in defensive rating, allowing 117.7 points per game.

That being said, two of the last three meetings between Sacramento and Memphis have cashed the Under in points, and the Kings are struggling immensely on the offensive end. The Grizzlies aren’t a whole lot better.
