Heat’s Herro content in reserve, ‘It doesn’t really feel like I’m out of place’

MIAMI — Nothing passive aggressive this time. Not amid the winning. Not with what’s working.

So Tyler Herro off the bench? Off to a good start, as the Miami Heat reformulate amid health and hope.

Back for two games after missing a month with a rib injury, Herro has transitioned into a reserve role that has boosted Erik Spoelstra’s bench without compromising the rotation.

“I’m coming off the bench right now and it doesn’t really feel like I’m out of place,” Herro said, “because we got guys that can start and I’m comfortable in my role and in myself.

“So I’m happy where I’m at.”

Such was not necessarily the case when Herro returned from a toe injury last month off the bench, or when reshuffled to a reserve role after previous absences.

But having appeared in only 11 games before this return, there is an appreciation for what already has been in place, of the momentum that now is the team’s first three-game winning streak of the calendar year and the push to escape the play-in zone of the standings.

So, no, no drama.

“Right now we’re just trying to get him out there,” Spoelstra said of Herro’s return in the back-to-back wins over the Atlanta Hawks and Memphis Grizzlies. “We are going to manage the minutes. I’m not overthinking it. I’m not putting anything in cement. I don’t have a timeline for anything.

“We’re how many ever games into the season right now and we finally have our full roster. We’re just going to try to maximize these next 25 games as much as possible and we just want everybody just to pour into the team, pour into the role, don’t overthink things at this point.”

For Herro it meant 23:19 in Friday night’s return in Atlanta, when he closed with 24 points on 9-of-14 shooting and then 22:55 in Saturday night’s home victory over the Grizzlies, when he finished with 14 points on 5-of-15 shooting.

While returning amid a back-to-back set might not have been optimal, Herro said there was an energy to the experience that allowed him to push through.

“I missed, obviously, a lot of time and a lot of time I was just sitting and relaxing and letting my rib heal,” he said. “You know, so it just feels good to be out here again. I woke up (Saturday) morning like it was the first day of school again, to be able to play another game. So like I’m just excited to be back out here.”

While the Hawks-Grizzlies set was the Heat’s 14th of their league-high 17 back-to-back sets this season, it was just Herro’s second run through such a pairing.

With Davion Mitchell missing Saturday due to illness, it afforded Spoelstra the opportunity to insert Herro back into the starting mix. Instead, Spoelstra gave rookie Kasparas Jakucionis his ninth start, with the Heat now having altered their starting lineups in each of their past 10 games.

After a pair of false starts this season with Herro returns, having missed the start of the season following September ankle surgery, the approach has been pragmatic, with a longer view in mind.

“Obviously, it’s been a unique season for him,” Spoelstra said. “We know how competitive he is. We know how much he wants to be out there. But those are the things you can’t control.

“But we have never forgotten about the talent that he brings. He changes our dynamic quite a bit.”

For now, that change is as a reserve.

But it doesn’t mean another change is not in the offing.

“I just want to get out here and play with the whole team, get comfortable, and just stack some healthy games together,” Herro said. “Just try to play a stretch of games where I’m healthy. That’s all that’s on my mind.”

Three LSU football stars with the most at stake at the NFL Combine

The NFL Combine is a massive week for NFL Draft prospects. Most NFL teams have already completed their scouting process and watched all the tape on the prospects they’re interested in. The Combine is a week when these scouts confirm their priors — good or bad.

There are several former LSU football standouts attending the combine, and given the Tigers’ frustrating season, their tape may not be perfect. However, they can make up for that with a top-notch performance in Indianapolis, showcasing the talent their lack of team success masked in 2025. Here are three former Tigers for whom this event matters most:

Mansoor Delane

Delane is in the conversation to be the No. 1 cornerback in this year’s draft class following his elite 2025 season at LSU. The only thing that might limit where he comes off the board is his lack of top-notch athleticism and size. He can’t change his arm length (reportedly around 30 inches — preferred is 32+), but if Delane performs well in the athletic testing, he can crack the top 10 in April.

Zavion Thomas

Thomas was never able to carve out a real role in the Tigers’ offense during his two seasons in Baton Rouge, which confused fans every time he was actually featured.

Thomas got his opportunity after former LSU offensive coordinator Joe Sloan was dismissed, as Thomas recorded 25 targets, 21 catches, 208 receiving yards, and a touchdown over the team’s final four regular-season games.

Thomas is expected to test well, but if he can stand out during the drills portion of the event, he could have some teams seeing him as more than just a gadget guy.

Harold Perkins Jr.

Perkins had an odd career at LSU, first looking like a future first-rounder after his First-Team All-SEC performance as a freshman, but he never returned to that level over the next three seasons. Despite the fact that Perkins wasn’t able to reach the level of play many expected from him, there is still some buzz around him heading into the draft.

The main reason for that is his exceptional athleticism, expected to run in the 4.4s at the combine. Teams are always willing to take a chance on linebackers with top-tier traits and pass-rush upside, so an impressive combine performance could go a long way for the former Tigers’ draft stock.

How did Jack Hughes lose his teeth in USA vs. Canada gold medal game?

Team USA will forever see Jack Hughes as an Olympic hero. On Sunday, the New Jersey Devils‘ star center, who was born in Orlando but came to prominence as a young hockey player in Michigan, scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Canada to give the USA men their first gold medal in almost half a century.

Hughes will, of course, have another big reason to remember this moment: He lost his teeth in the middle of the epic hockey game. The gap in Hughes’ teeth was hard not to notice as he skated around the ice after the win and during his postgame interview with NBC.

It’s not at all uncommon for hockey players to lose their teeth in the middle of a high-speed physical game where sticks and high-speed pucks are all flying around. But how did it happen for Hughes here?

It likely happened when Hughes took a high stick from Canada’s Sam Bennett (who plays for the Florida Panthers) late in the third period. It resulted in a double minor penalty for the Canadians, who had to spend most of the very end of the game on the penalty kill after giving the USA relentless offensive pressure beforehand. In all honesty, the penalty itself might have been one of the biggest reasons the USA was able to survive and eventually win in overtime:

Hughes will officially remember Sunday as the day he brought a men’s gold medal back to the USA and lost some of his teeth at the same time.

Intriguing team news

Dominic Solanke is on the bench for Spurs with Kolo Muani up top. Tudor has gone for what looks like a 3-5-1-1 formation with Gallagher, Sarr and Bissouma clogging things up in central midfield and Simons supporting the recalled Kolo Muani. Arsenal have gone with Gyokeres from the start again, despite his poor form and Gabriel Jesus pushing hard to start. Eze starts in midfield with Odegaard on the bench.

Hello and welcome to sunny north London!

The rain which has pretty much hammered down in England since early January (no joke!) has finally parted and the sun is shining on the streets of north London for this massive game. There’s tension in the air from both sets of fans given the stakes for both. Can Spurs get off to a flying start under interim boss Igor Tudor to ease their relegation fears? Or will Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal get back on track as their title bid has suffered an almighty wobble in recent weeks?

Tottenham lineup

Vicario; Palhinha, Dragusin, Van de Ven; Gray, Gallagher, Bissouma, Spence; Simons, Sarr; Kolo Muani

Arsenal lineup

Raya; Timber, Saliba, Gabriel, Hincapie; Rice, Zubimendi, Eze; Saka, Gyokeres, Trossard

Tottenham Hotspur team news, focus

There are so many injuries for new manager Igor Tudor to contend with as James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Ben Davies, Rodrigo Bentancur, Mohammed Kudus, Lucas Bergvall, Wilson Odobert, Kevin Danso, Pedro Porro, Richarlison and Destiny Udogie all remain out. Add in captain and star center back Cristian Romero being suspended and this is an almighty mess. But Spurs have shown signs of getting things back together in recent weeks with Dominic Solanke’s return from injury giving them a focal point up top. If Spurs can dig in and frustrate Arsenal, they’ve shown they can be dangerous from set pieces and hit teams on the counter. Tudor’s tactics are all about pressing high and going man-for-man across the pitch and he prefers a 3-4-2-1 system. Let’s see how quickly Spurs’ players can grasp all of that.

Arsenal team news, focus

Arteta has some big decisions to make in his lineup as Bukayo Saka could go back out to the right wing to start after being deployed in a central role, while Gabriel Jesus could come in up top to start after Viktor Gyokeres had another poor game against Wolves on Wednesday. Kai Havertz and Mikel Merino remain out while captain Martin Odegaard is battling to be fit and Leandro Trossard came off late on at Wolves. Arteta needs Arsenal to stop making silly defensive errors late in games and hold their nerve. That is easier said than done given what is on the line and their recent history.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal preview

But we are, as Spurs are hovering just above the relegation zone as Thomas Frank was fired after a run of just two wins from their last 17 Premier League games. Igor Tudor has come in as interim manager and by the time Spurs kick off on Sunday they could be just two points above the drop zone. With injuries galore, a severe lack of belief and pressure mounting, this derby game could be the making of Spurs. Or, it could be the moment things get even worse in their dreadful domestic season.

On the other side of north London Arsenal are starting to crack under the pressure of the title race as Mikel Arteta’s side have won just two of their last seven Premier League games. They somehow coughed up a 2-0 lead away at bottom club Wolves on Wednesday to draw 2-2. That means their lead atop the table could be cut to one point by the time they kick off on Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Arsenal prediction

This is going to be a really intense, spicy derby and these games are always tough to call. Given all of Spurs’ injuries issues, go for a narrow Arsenal win as they aim to steady the ship. Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Arsenal.

Liverpool late show floors Nottingham Forest

Alexis Mac Allister salvaged victory for Liverpool over Nottingham Forest (Ben STANSALL)

Alexis Mac Allister’s 97th-minute goal rescued Liverpool from a lacklustre performance to beat struggling Nottingham Forest 1-0 on Sunday in a huge boost to their chances of Champions League football next season.

Forest’s fourth manager of the season, Vitor Pereira, was taking charge for the first time in the league and his side looked set to earn a deserved point until a dramatic finale.

Mac Allister had a goal ruled out when he charged down Ola Aina’s clearance in the closing stages.

The ball was deemed to have struck the Argentine midfielder on the arm.

However, to Pereira’s fury, Forest did not heed the warning as they sliped to within two points of the Premier League relegation zone.

Mac Allister swept home a rebound after Virgil van Dijk’s header was saved.

After another lengthy VAR review, this time the call went in Liverpool’s favour despite Hugo Ekitike standing in an offside position.

Liverpool remain in sixth but climb level on points with Chelsea and Manchester United and within six points of Aston Villa.

Thanks to the strong performance of English sides in European competition this season, a place in the top five will almost certainly secure Champions League qualification.

Liverpool were dealt a blow before kick-off when Florian Wirtz picked up an injury in the warm-up.

The German’s ingenuity was badly missed in a performance badly lacking in attacking impetus until a late rally saved their blushes.

The pressure is on Arsenal in Sunday’s later kick-off (1630GMT) at north London rivals Tottenham.

Spurs are under new management as interim boss Igor Tudor takes charge for the first time, tasked with guiding them away from the relegation zone.

Arsenal could have been out of sight in the title race but a run of just two wins in seven league games has allowed Manchester City to close to within two points at the top.

Fulham climbed above Sunderland into the top half of the table after becoming just the second visiting side to win at the Stadium of Light this season.

Raul Jimenez’s double secured a 3-1 victory for Marco Silva’s men.

The Mexican striker headed in Alex Iwobi’s corner before maintaining his perfect penalty record in the Premier League from 13 spot-kicks.

Enzo Le Fee’s penalty pulled a goal back for the Black Cats before Iwobi rounded off the scoring.

Crystal Palace eased the rising discontent at Selhurst Park with just a second win in 16 games.

Evann Guessand’s first Palace goal in the 90th minute beat 10-man Wolves 1-0.

Tolu Arokodare’s first-half penalty was saved by Palace goalkeeper Dean Henderson.

Ladislav Krejci was then sent off for kicking the ball away on the hour mark as bottom-of-the-table Wolves missed the chance to move above Derby’s unwanted record low of 11 points in a Premier League season.

Barça's latest La Masia star gets them off to dream start vs. Levante 🔥

Barça’s latest La Masia star gets them off to dream start vs. Levante 🔥

After Osasuna did Barcelona a major favour yesterday by beating Real Madrid, a win against Levante was imperative.

Fortunately for the Blaugrana, they’ve got off to the perfect start thanks to their latest La Masia starlet.

Having scored his first goal for the club just over two weeks ago against Mallorca, Marc Bernal struck again after just four minutes at the Nou Camp.

The 18-year-old defensive midfielder finished like a striker, getting to Eric García’s cross before anyone else and guiding into the net from close range.

Bernal’s early goal sees Barça top of the table, one point clear of their arch-rivals.

Has their newest star boy provided the lift needed for Hansi Flick’s side?

Veteran Fulham striker extends PL-best penalty record 💯

Veteran Fulham striker extends PL-best penalty record 💯

13 penalties taken, 13 penalties scored.

Fulham hold a 2-1 lead away to Sunderland thanks to a second-half brace from Raúl Jiménez.

Jiménez nodded in the opener off of a corner from Fulham’s Alex Iwobi.

Minutes later, Fulham were awarded a penalty after a VAR review for a shirt pull on in the box.

Jiménez stepped up and slotted his penalty into the bottom-left corner to complete his brace.

The Mexico International has now scored all 13 of his attempted Premier League penalties, the most of any PL player with an 100% record from the spot.

Still, questions surrounding the veteran striker’s future linger, leaving fans to wonder if he will leave the Cottagers in the summer.

Dylan Larkin Takes BRUTAL Hit in Gold Medal Game

If you’re a Detroit Red Wings fan, chances are your heart skipped a beat on Sunday morning.

During the Gold Medal game between Team USA and Canada, Red Wings captain Dylan Larkintook a brutal — but clean — hit that instantly had Wings fans holding their breath. Canada’s Tom Wilson lowered his shoulder and absolutely drilled Larkin, sending him head-first into the boards in a scary-looking collision.

Tom Wilson laid likely the HARDEST hit of the entire tournament on Dylan Larkin 😳#MilanoCortina2026pic.twitter.com/Clz0SLXdVG

— BarDown (@BarDown) February 22, 2026

It was one of those moments where everything stops. As a Wings fan, you’re not thinking about the score or the gold medal — you’re thinking, “Please get up, please be okay.”

Thankfully, Larkin popped back up and returned to the game, showing exactly why he’s the heart and soul of Detroit’s rebuild. The hit was hard, legal, and playoff-intensity hockey at its finest — but that doesn’t make it any easier to watch when it’s your captain on the receiving end.

Love him or hate him, Wilson plays with an edge, and this was international hockey at full speed. Still, seeing Larkin shake it off and keep battling was a reminder of why Wings fans ride so hard for No. 71. Tough. Fearless. Captain material.

Unfortunately, videos have been taken down due to copyright infringement, but the photos are still available.
